For Sgt. 1st Class Steven Lunn, life in the U.S. Army was defined by adrenaline, precision, and the open sky. Having spent time with the elite 82nd Airborne Division and the 10th Special Forces Group, Lunn was operating at the top of his field as a test parachutist at Yuma Proving Ground. Lunn sustained a catastrophic injury during a jump in 2019, but with perseverance and the help of the Fort Carson Soldier Recovery Unit, he made a complete return to duty.

We are now using ambient listening technology to improve the way our providers interact with their patients. Ambient listening captures important clinical details of the conversation with your provider while keeping your information protected and secure. The tool, which is now being used at Defense Health Agency hospitals and clinics worldwide, allows providers to fully engage in uninterrupted conversation with patients, resulting in more personalized care and better outcomes. Providers will always ask for your consent before using ambient listening during your appointment.

Lt. Col. Camille Betito relinquished command of the Evans Army Community Hospital Medical Readiness Battalion to Lt. Col. Kirsten Ouimette in a change of command ceremony July 10, 2026.

Ouimette comes to EACH from Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, where she served as the Comptroller for the largest U.S. hospital outside of the United States.

Betito leaves the Mountain Post for Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Maryland, where she will serve as the executive officer for the hospital’s Medical Readiness Brigade.

Four of the Army's newest nurses graduated from the Evans Army Community Hospital Clinical Nurse Transition Program in a ceremony on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

The Clinical Nurse Transition Program (CNTP) offers new nurses over 800 hours of hands-on, precepted clinical experience, combined with 48 hours of focused didactic education and seminars.

The program returned to Evans Army Community Hospital in 2025 after a 13-year hiatus. CNTP provides a comprehensive introduction to a variety of nursing specialties through four weeks of rotations in areas like the Emergency Room, Operating Room, Labor and Delivery, and even a rotation in a 4th Infantry Division medical unit.

"This program helps new Army nurses bridge the gap between their nursing education and military healthcare," said CPT Tracy Kerkow, Deputy Chief of the EACH Department of Education. "It also allows them to explore potential career paths within the Army Nurse Corps and identify their areas of interest. We really appreciate the support of the entire EACH team in making this program an overwhelming success."

2nd Lt. Caroline Williams

The Army Nurse Corps consists of more than 11,000 Soldiers dedicated to providing unmatched health care to servicemembers, families, and retirees, while also supporting humanitarian missions, and responding to natural disasters.

UPDATE: The Army Nurse Corps offers TEN sub-specialties in the following areas:
• 66B - Army Public Health Nurse: Focuses on community health, epidemiology, and preventive medicine.
• 66C - Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse: Provides behavioral health care and crisis intervention to soldiers.
• 66E - Peri-Operative Nurse: Manages and assists in operating rooms and surgical environments.
• 66F - Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA): Highly advanced practice role administering anesthesia in combat and hospital settings.
• 66G - Obstetrics-Gynecologic (OB/GYN) Nurse: Specializes in women's health, labor, and delivery.
• 66H - Medical-Surgical Nurse: Focuses on the holistic care of adult patients before and after surgical procedures.
• 66N - Generalist Nurse: Used to designate unspecialized staff and leadership positions.
• 66P - Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP): Advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) providing primary care services to military families and retirees.
• 66S - Critical Care Nurse: Manages intensive care units, caring for severely injured or post-operative trauma casualties.
• 66T - Emergency/Trauma Nurse: Specializes in triage, resuscitation, and emergency stabilization in combat and stateside facilities.

REMINDER: STANDARDIZED TRAINING CLOSURE THURSDAY:
Evans Army Community Hospital will be closed Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 8 a.m. to noon to conduct monthly Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) training. This training is aligned with Defense Health Agency guidance to standardize training times for all medical treatment facilities across the enterprise. DHA has directed that all MTFs will close for training the second Thursday of every month from 8 a.m. to noon.

During training, all departments and clinics, to include the laboratory, pharmacies and other ancillary services like radiology and physical therapy, will be closed. Departments and clinics will open at noon for appointments and walk-in services. As always, the Emergency Department and Inpatient Services will remain open.
