New Jersey Survivor Outreach Services Program Dedicated to Gold Star Families and Survivors

"The strength of our nation is our Army. The strength of our Army is our Soldiers. The strength of our Soldiers is our families. The Army recognizes that no one has given more for the nation than the families of the fallen"

Dearest Families of our Fallen Warriors,

Words can never express to you the depth of appreciation for the sacrifice you have had to make. A sacrifice that was not your choice. A sacrifice that no one would want to make. And a sacrifice that no one is ever prepared to make. But a penultimate sacrifice is exactly what you have had to make when your beloved warfighter's life was cut short in the defense of our freedom.

Though our words are limited, our respect for you and your fallen service member is not, and should never be. From the depths of our hearts, we send to you the love of a grateful nation. Bound together with you, we look forward to a day when wars will cease, pain will end, and peace will reign.

Until that day comes, we stand alongside you with a shoulder to cry on, a hand to grab onto, and an embrace to receive. We need each other. Because we need you to show us the meaning of courage. We need you to teach us the value of strength. And we need you to teach our own families what true love looks like. And you have done all of that, and more.

Please accept this letter in the spirit in which it is sent. We are your American family. Together, until the end. If only you receive the smallest of blessing knowing that you are not alone, that you are loved, and that we will never forget; well then, this love letter has achieved its goal.

In deepest love and respect,

The American People

"The U.S. military has people of many ethnicities, of many major religions, with origins from around the world and represent the remarkable diversity of our nation. It is my sincere belief that this diversity is a powerful example to others as we conduct our important mission working with the nation...
