Check out the LeRay Mansion Page https://www.facebook.com/pages/LeRay-Mansion for photos of this Friday's haunted Mansion event. We were so excited to see everyone and the awesome costumes.

Anyone have any comments on what we can do to improve next year. We have a very small staff (3) to accomplish this event but we love to open up the district to everyone.

See posts, photos and more on Facebook.

Last call. If there aren't more interested we will have to look at doing fewer of these trips. Great way to learn about the hidden history in our back yard for free. Nice bus ride with nice folks.

If this type of tour doesn't interest you, what would you like to see about the history or archaeology on the installation? Is it the time of year? Please let us know.

Registration is now open for this year's Lost Villages History Tour on Fort Drum! It's all happening Fri., Nov. 8 and participants will get a guided tour of the former villages of Lewisburg, Woods Mills, Sterlingville and LeRaysville, as well as their associated cemeteries.

During the rapid expansion of Fort Drum (then Pine Camp) in the early 1940s, these villages were purchased by the U.S. Army and their residents were relocated to surrounding areas. This tour will offer some insight into life in these North Country communities before and after the expansion and highlight the industrial and agricultural significance of the area.

Participants will also view LeRay Mansion, visit the 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Museum and walk though Memorial Park.

The tour will be a full-day event, with buses departing at 8:30 a.m. and returning participants to their vehicles by 4 p.m.

Seating is limited. Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, email [email protected] or call (315) 772-5463 no later than Nov 1.

Did you know we have more buildings on site other than the Paddock Mansion? We are fortunate to have a One-Room Schoolhouse (circa 1895), The Massey House (est. 1803), and a log cabin built by James LeRay de Chaumont in the 18th century to promote settlement to the area. Next weekend our cabin will feature a living historian talking through the life of those who would have used the cabin as their daily home, as a part of our 5th Annual History and Genealogy Fair. Great for the whole family.

Is your family watching too much television? On screens too long? Children over 2 (and adults) should limit screen time to 60 minutes per day. For every 60 minutes of screen time, we should have 60 minutes of active play. Come take a trip in time to the 1800s for some fun "Old Tyme Games" at LeRay Mansion with Fort Drum Army Community Service.

Little excitement the last few days at the Leray Mansion. Water main break in the front yard was handled quickly and expertly by our Public Works crews. All repaired now and grass seeded. In the midst of the chaos I took a minute to appreciate the rugosa Rose's reblooming and the bees finding them.

Something for everyone.
