Quick thinking: Daughters of Fort Drum soldier receive Girl Scout Lifesaving Medals of Honor for helping their mother

In the #10thCAB, our Families are as brave as our Soldiers.

Last fall, tragedy struck one of our 3-10 General Support Aviation Battalion Families while their Soldier was deployed to Afghanistan.

Leah, Laila and Lauren, daughters of Shanna and Staff Sgt. Leon Norris, provided critical aid to their mother when they found her panicked and bleeding on their bathroom floor after suffering a miscarriage. By their quick thinking and courageous action, these three Girl Scouts of Troop 50357 potentially saved their mother's life.

This past Monday, all three were presented the Girl Scout Lifesaving Medal of Honor.

“It was one of those types of situations where I was extremely worried about my wife and wasn’t home with the girls, but I kept calm, they kept calm and they responded so well I just knew that they had everything under control,” said Leon Norris. “I’m so proud of them, they’ve made me proud as a father and as a volunteer with the troop. I couldn’t ask for more.”

Read more about these amazing young heroines in the article below! We are extremely proud of them!

Please be aware that beginning tomorrow, Aug 5, we are expanding the list of places that require a temperature check prior to entry. Patrons are required to submit to screening at all CYS facilities, gyms, DFACs and Hays Hall. Any patron presenting with a temperature outside acceptable levels will be asked to reach out to their primary care provider. Soldiers will be referred to CTMC. At the dining facilities, Soldiers will be asked to wait outside while a to-go plate is prepared for them.

These new requirements may add a little extra time to your visit at the facilities we mentioned. We appreciate your patience as we all work to keep our community safe!

The Falcon has landed!

After a long 10 months of being deployed to #Afghanistan over 90 more of our Soldiers, including the Falcon Brigade command team, have arrived back at #FortDrum! Each Soldier is looking forward to reuniting with their Families and friends once again after quarantine.

Showing their support even from a distance, just as they did while we were deployed, were our 10th CAB spouses who came to the airfield to see their Soldiers as they arrived. Thank you for everything you do, #FalconFamilies!

#WarriorWednesday

Looking back on some of the amazing training we conducted with our friends in the U.S. Marine Corps and our #NATO partners in the #GeorgianArmy during our deployment in #Afghanistan.

Not all military organizations are familiar with how medical evacuations work, so that's where our #MountainDustoff team comes in. The professional combat medics and pilots in our C Co., 3-10 General Support Aviation Battalion train with other units to teach them how to conduct aerial evacuations.

By learning how to load and unload patients quickly and effectively, the Soldiers gained valuable knowledge that could someday help save lives.

Mission Complete!

As #10thCAB redeploys and completes our tour in #Afghanistan, we can rest comfortably knowing that our brothers and sisters at 4th Combat Aviation Brigade are well prepared to undertake the #ResoluteSupport mission.

During the Transfer of Authority ceremony, the 10th CAB command team cased our brigade colors while the 4th CAB team unfurled theirs, symbolizing the passing of responsibility between our two combat aviation brigades and the continuation of the mission in Afghanistan.

We want to thank our Ivy Eagle partners for everything they did to make this transition as seamless as possible. We hope they have a very safe deployment!

#OnThisDayInHistory:

On July 26, 1948, President Truman signed Executive Order 9981, which abolished discrimination "on the basis of race, color, religion or national origin" in the United States Armed Forces.

Today and every day, we must continue to uphold the principles of equality within our organization. Please read the memo from our senior Army staff that describes what our Army has done within the past few months to eliminate bias within our ranks, and what our leaders will continue to do in the future.

On July 26, 1948, President Harry S. Truman signed this executive order establishing the President's Committee on Equality of Treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Services, committing the government to integrating the segregated military.

Happy to be home at #FortDrum!

Little by little our TF Falcon Soldiers make their way home, where for their safety they will undergo quarantine and then after 14 days be released finally to their Families, who have been incredibly supportive and patient given our concerns for COVID.

Safety is our number one concern, but we will be much happier when our Falcon Families are reunited again!

A blast from the past!

In July 2018, two West Point cadets visited #FortDrum as part of the Cadet Troop Leader Training program (CTLT) to shadow A Co., 2-10 Assault Helicopter Battalion and learn about #ArmyAviation from first-hand experience.

During their time with #KnighthawkNation, they participated in Aerial Gunnery tables, which serve to keep our UH-60 crews current on their M240 machine gun qualifications both from the ground and in the air.

We look forward to welcoming more West Point - The U.S. Military Academy cadets in the future and teaching them about the amazing opportunities that await them in the U.S. Army!

We are incredibly proud to serve with such hard-working and dedicated Soldiers like the ones supporting the mission in TF Rover. They set the standard, and continue to get the job done!

Congratulations, falcons!

B/227 SMs were presented the Army Achievement Medal (AAM) on July 17th 2020 at the B/277 Hangar. PFC Miller, PFC Crowden, Nienburg, PV2 Sanchez-Barbeitia, PV2 Sharp, SPC Vancuren, SPC Johnson, SPC Manuel, SPC Teal and SPC Choi were vital team members of the #CAB's six month long workforce initiative to conduct deep cleaning in every hangar within the CAB in order to achieve regulatory compliance, making workspaces safer for all Soldiers. We are extremely proud of our Soldiers and leadership for recognizing them!

Dear 10 CAB Soldiers and Families,

As our Soldiers continue quarantine we are continually looking at medical best practices to ensure the safety of the community and the force. As an additional measure to safeguard Soldiers and Families, we will begin to conduct Nasal Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests for COVID-19 beginning Tuesday, July 21, as this falls within the average incubation period for COVID-19 exposure.

In line with CDC guidelines, our Soldiers will not be able to test out of the 14-day quarantine because someone could still be an asymptomatic positive despite a negative test. Testing beginning Tuesday will help identify positive individuals and allow leaders to continue to mitigate further exposure. We are also conducting daily screenings and any Soldier who screens symptomatic will be tested immediately and further isolated from the larger group to limit the potential spread of COVID-19.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the chain of command or call the Mayor Cell at 315-772-4228.

Thank you for your continued support of our quarantined Soldiers!

Stay tuned to the 10th CAB page and the chain of command for updates. We will keep providing information to Soldiers and their Families as it becomes available.

07/17/2020

TF Falcon Soldiers and Families, there had been a significant change to our lastest redeployment flight. Please read the following message.

As a direct result of emerging information regarding potential exposure of individuals on TF Falcon Main Body 1 to COVID 19 during redeployment
operations, the 10th Mountain Division (LI) Acting Senior Commander, Brig. Gen. Brett T. Funck, has directed that Soldiers on this flight will now enter level 2 quarantine (isolation in barracks on post) upon arrival, versus the original planned level 1 quarantine.

This decision was not made lightly, given the impact it will have on MB1
Soldiers, as well as on friends and families of these Mountaineers, who have looked forward to their arrival home for the past 10 months. This decision is in the best interests of our force, our mission, and our community.

TF Falcon and 1BCT Soldiers will be housed in the 1BCT Quarantine Area on main post. The 10th Combat Aviation Brigade Mayor Cell will release more information, including how to drop off goods to the Soldiers, through the Chain of Command.

Risk factors for each returning flight will continue to be considered
individually to determine if the redeploying Soldiers will enter Level 1 or
Level 2 Quarantine. Please continue to monitor this page for updates as
future flight information populates.

Just wanted to take a moment to thank all of the phenomenal SFRGs who coordinated and delivered and incredible donation of food, snacks, and drinks to all of the quarantine barracks. On behalf of all of the Soldiers here, we can’t thank you enough for the immense support you have given us all!
If anyone has extra water bottles to share, can you drop them off at the barracks our soldiers are quarantining in? This is the running water they currently have to drink from. I'll be dropping water off myself tomorrow.
