Soldiers, Families, and friends of the 227 and 8th MP Detachment:

I wanted to briefly say how honored I am to be the new detachment sergeant for this great unit. During the coming weeks I will make my way to each shift and get to know everyone face to face. If there’s a time before then that you need to get ahold of me, you can do so through this page, get with your section sergeant to assist you in contacting me. I look forward to getting to know all of you and keep doing the excellent work the detachment has been known to do.

Meet Janett. She's a 10-year-old, German Shepard who has officially ended her tour with the 227th & 8th Military Police Detachments, 91st MP BN, 16th MP BDE. Janett served as a Patrol Explosive Detector Dog with her career spanning multiple deployments, saving the lives of many Soldiers and civilians. Michael Arnold, Janett's former handler, was able to adopt her through Mission K9 Rescue, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to reunite handlers with their working dogs once they are eligible for retirement. We wish Janett a happy retirement!

On 24 March 2020, 227 conducted a small change of responsibility between SFC Simeon and SFC Webb. With the current COVID-19 restrictions, SFC Simeon wanted to share his farewell message. Please see below.

I'd like to thank LTC LeBlanc and CSM Smith for their trust and confidence in me over the past 8 months. Your leadership and mentorship has been invaluable. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve as a Detachment Sergeant in your Battalion.

To CPT Hileman, I've been fortunate to have had such a well rounded Commander over these past 8 months. Although the time was shorter than expected, we accomplished a ton in those 8 months. From figuring things out as we went, to Saturday gym workouts, 11 mile runs, increasing readiness Metrics across the Detachment, and enhancing the enterprise with DES, I'm glad to have had an officer of your caliber to serve alongside with. Thank you for your leadership, friendship, and trust in me. It's been an honor serving as your Detachment Sergeant. Thank you to Elisabeth and Quinn for everything they did to support our Soldiers and my family as well.

Lastly, to the Officers, NCOs, and Soldiers (including you 8th!) I would like to thank each and every one for your hard work and dedication over the past 9 months. A unit is not successful because of a single individual. The success of 227 has very little to do with me, and everything to do with you all. Continue to strive for excellence in all that you do. Dont accept being average. Put forth 100% every day in improving not only yourselves, but your teams, sections, and the Detachment. It's been an honor to serve with you all and again, thank you for everything you've done over the past 8 months.

This is my squad.

We talked about it at the board yesterday. It's a charge to own it at echelon (team, section, squad, etc.). Develop each other, build trust, look out for each other, care for each other, empower each other, and build your "squad" every step of the way. It's not a 9-5 concept. It requires Soldiers and leaders of character who are committed to the team 24/7. Each member of the "squad" is equally important, so treat each other with dignity and respect at all times.

Saturday morning workout was a success! We focused on variations of the sprint drag carry to include overloaded sled drags, heavy kettlebell carrys, and a variety of sprints. After that, we worked on hex bar deadlift jumps to build explosive power, and finished with static standing power throws. Thanks to everyone for coming out and crushing the workout.
