Fort Lee Survivor Outreach Services honored our parents in observance of Gold Star Mother’s Day. Our mothers and fathers hung a picture of their loved ones on our Wall of Honor in the SOS office. Our Garrison Command Team, COL Hoyman and CSM Love along with the Hoyman Family attended and assisted the survivors with placing their loved ones pictures on our wall. The event ended with a meal provided by Colonial Heights Mission BBQ.

Residents can expect to see and/or hear a relatively low frequency of military aircraft in the U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command Headquarters area here at Fort Lee today, Friday and Saturday, as we ready for the special open-to-the-public “Meet Your Army” celebration at Fort Lee Aug. 27 from 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. If viewing, as always, maintain a safe distance from aircraft readying to land or take off.

"Meet Your Army" will feature military training demos, equipment displays, hands-on activities, music from the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band and a whole lot more.

Members of the public are welcome to take part in this unique opportunity to interact with U.S. military personnel and learn more about what they do and how they do it.

Today is a historical day for su***de prevention and mental health in the U.S.! The National Su***de Prevention Lifeline, now known as the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, can be more easily reached by calling or texting 988, or chatting on 988lifeline.org.

988 serves as a universal entry point so that no matter where you live in the U.S., you can easily access 24/7 emotional support. You do not have to be suicidal to reach out. Our trained crisis counselors can help you through whatever mental health challenges you are experiencing.

We're so grateful to SAMHSA, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Federal Communications Commission, and our other su***de prevention and mental health partners in the field for working together to get us here, and we look forward to growing and expanding our services and supports in the years to come.

Loretta Booker hangs a picture of her late husband, Petty Officer 1st Class Corwyn A. Booker Jr., as Survivor Outreach Services coordinator Angela Bellamy looks on during the Gold Star Spouses Day event Tuesday in the new SOS office on post. The occasion – in which spouses of the fallen were invited to hang pictures of their loved ones -- served to remember deceased military members in a dedicated space. Among those in attendance were several spouses as well as Col. Karin L. Watson and Command Sgt. Maj. Tamisha A. Love, garrison commander and CSM, respectively. The ceremony also marked the relocation of the SOS office from the Army Community Service building to the Garrison Headquarters on A Avenue. For more information about SOS, call 804-734-6445.
