As Culinary Specialist we take pride in giving back to the Community and encouraging self reliance. From September 15 to October 15 in the United States and the World's Finest Navy we pay homage and recognize the contributions and influence Hispanic Americans have brought to the history and culture in the United States. Today was a special meal observed by Class 59 to commemorate all on National Hispanic Heritage Month. The meal consisted of Cuban Sandwiches, Stewed Chicken, Deviled Spicy Shrimp, Seasoned Rice w Pigeon Peas, White Rice w Vegetables, Seasoned Squashed and Meatball soup. Special thank you to all guest speakers from the Air Force SRA Celaya, Army and Marine Corp.

The Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War & POW/MIA National Recognition Day Luncheon was held in The Lee Club Main Ballroom at Fort Lee Virginia. Attendees enjoyed an amazing meal prepared by The Lee Club Staff to include Beef Tips with Gravy, Vegetable Lasagna, Garlic Butter Mashed Potatoes, Seasoned Vegetable Medley, Hot Dinner Rolls, Fresh Garden Salad and a Peach Cobbler for dessert.

Today is Ombudsman Appreciation Day. It is a day for us to show our appreciation to command Ombudsmen for their dedication to supporting our Navy and its families.Thank you Mrs. Sarah Turnpaugh for speaking to the students about all the resources you provide as the NTTC DET Fort Lee Ombudsman. The Ombudsman is a volunteer, appointed by the Commanding Officer (CO), to serve as an information link between command leadership and the Navy Families. They also provide resource referrals when needed and are instrumental in resolving family issues.

Today marks the 20th anniversary since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. To show a tribute of remembrance to the Fallen Service Members who served our nation, Instructors and Students participated in the Run for the Fallen here on Fort Lee base. We had the opportunity to assist with water routes and carrying banners to honor the Fallen Service members. This event is to commemorate the lives lost and recognize the thousands who survived while coming together in the spirit of unity for an event that changed our Country forever. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ

Women's Equality Day is celebrated in the United States on August 26 to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of s*x. The Mistress of Ceremony CS1 Gately started off with the opening remarks followed by an amazing rendition of the national anthem from CSSN Summers. Special guest Commander Sibley (NTTC Meridian Commanding Officer) shared a few personal memories of her mother when she was in the Army. The Observance concluded with a special meal from Class 51 consisting of Roasted Prime Rib, Grilled Salmon, Fried Rice, Garlic Mashed Potatoes with Beef Gravy, Succotash and a Cream of Broccoli Soup.

This morning Instructors & Students participated in a "End of the Summer" Adopt-A-Highway clean up. This program provides an opportunity for staff and students to pick up litter and remove waste around the Fort Lee community. Each year, more than 23,000 Adopt-a-Highway volunteers collect more than 44,000 bags of waste along Virginiaโ€™s highways.
