Today marks the 80th anniversary of the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. We pause to honor and remember the 2,403 service members and civilians who died during the attack in Hawaii Dec. 7, 1941. The attack also injured 1,178 people and damaged or destroyed 19 Navy ships and hundreds of Navy and Army Air Corps aircraft. The day after the attack, the United States declared war on Japan and so entered World War II. President Franklin Roosevelt, in a speech to Congress, stated that the bombing of Pearl Harbor was “a date which will live in infamy."

We honor their service.

Had the honor of meeting two WWII Vets this morning at the ACCA Shriner's Veterans Day Breakfast in Richmond, VA! Mr. Ron Kimler (center) flew 38 combat missions in the P-47 Thunderbolt over Europe. And Mr. Pat Johnson (right) was a Sailor on an LST in the Pacific serving during multiple island campaigns. Both were young men who served during historic times that we will always remember.

“As senior leaders, we have experienced things our subordinates have not,” Command Sgt. Maj. Randy T. Brown observed. “It’s important to reach back and share those experiences and use them as tools to further develop future leaders.”

Brown took over duties as the 15th Transportation Corps CSM in mid-July. He came to the Sustainment Center of Excellence packing a potent force of will – someone clearly prepared and elated to tackle issues large and small hovering within the transportation universe.

WELCOME TO AMERICA AGAIN
Colonel Helwig: My name is Michael Lubinski and I am the Store Leader of the Kwik Trip Travel Center #202 in Plover, WI. September 9th through the 16th is National Truck Drivers Appreciation Week. We plan on having our 2nd annual celebration at our store in Plover. We have prize baskets, giveaways, specials, coupons etc. for the truckers. We also held an Extremely successful old car cruise in last year. This year we are planning on an Emergency Vehicle display on Tuesday the 11th, a Big Rig display on Wednesday the 12th, another old car show on Thursday and on Friday a Motorcycle/ATV/UTV display. What I am most excited for however, is on Saturday when we would like to display military vehicles. Many of our nation’s truck drivers are former military and they would love the ability to reminisce and see old equipment and meet other truckers and veterans and members of the military. I was also wondering if we could have an autographed picture to hang up in our Driver Lounge and some to give a-way during our event. We would like to invite you to bring down some of your equipment to showcase at our show if at all possible. This is our first year doing the military vehicle display and I am not all sure who I can contact so any other sources or ideas would be extremely helpful. If you have any questions please feel free to reply to this email or call myself or Dave Trickle at the Kwik Trip Truck stop in Plover 715-344-7252. Thank you, Michael Lubinski Store Leader Kwik Trip #202 715-344-7252 [email protected]
