Service has always been at the heart of Tobias Uhrig - service for our country, service for our community, and service to those families who lost their loved ones. At last night's City Council meeting, Rowanoak Mortuary and Crematory was recognized as the December Business of the Month. Through sheer determination and grit, he and wife Abigale, purchased property located at 231 South Sherman Street about a year ago and started making numerous improvements and enhancements to the building's exterior and interior in order to provide affordable and customized funeral services. Although the scope of his dream project is an ambitious undertaking, it hasn't been insurmountable for the Morgan County native and former U.S. Army Mortuary Affairs Specialist. Thank you, Rowanoak Mortuary and Crematory for making Fort Morgan a great place to live, work, and enjoy!

Congratulations to owners Kristin Lindsey, Jennifer Williams, and Allison Miller at Sagebrush Market, LLC for being selected as our November Business of the Month! The reception for this niche business that offers a variety of food and body products to benefit the whole being has been outstanding. The beautifully remodeled storefront building, located at 210.5 Main Street, contains a wide variety of items secured from local or Made in America vendors with an emphasis on fresh, nutritious, organic, and additive free. Even the product packaging materials and labels are eco-friendly. The business and its owners are strong supporters of the community and serve on several nonprofit boards and organizations including United Way of Morgan County, SHARE, and Fort Morgan Lions Club. Their monetary contributions to such agencies as Morgan County 4-H, Fort Morgan FFA, and the MCC Foundation are also appreciated. Thank you Sagebrush Market, LLC for making Fort Morgan a great place to live, work, and enjoy!

The Fort Morgan Fire Department is excited to announce that it has begun the process of creating a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP).

Creating our CWPP will bring diverse experts together to evaluate wildfire risk in our community. This will enable our Fire Department to increase our ability to effectively and safely respond to wildfires, and to provide resources to homeowners and communities to ensure that they are protected and prepared for wildfires when they occur.

We need your input to make sure that our plan reflects your needs, concerns and opinions about wildfires in Morgan County! Please take the time to complete a brief survey, linked here:

Congratulations, Kinnon Entertainment, for your selection as Business of the Month for October. Business owner, Mike Blecha, went from a local rocker to a successful entrepreneur in 15 years. He creatively used his high energy, technical prowess, and tenacious can-do approach he developed as a musician to grow and expand his promotional and sound & lighting production company into multiple divisions. A year ago he developed an innovative wireless surveillance system that can be located virtually anywhere there is sunlight and cellphone signal availability and can now be found in more than 200 places throughout the country. Although Mike and Chelsea Blecha could operate their business anywhere, they chose Fort Morgan due to the overwhelming passion they have for the area. They continue to support the area through donations of equipment and services, and are active members of several organizations. Stop by their headquarters located at 306 Main Street to congratulate them!

National Public Natural Gas Week 2023

Why Public Natural Gas Matters to our Community

This year, October 1-7 is Public Natural Gas Week, a time when communities such as ours give recognition to one of their most valuable community assets—their publicly owned natural gas utility. We are dedicating this week to educating our community about the benefits of having a public natural gas utility in addition to promoting the overall benefits of natural gas for your fueling and heating needs. There are approximately 1,000 public natural gas utilities in the United States. Most are small and comprised of a few hundred to a few thousand customers. Despite their size, they have a huge impact on the communities they serve by providing an irreplaceable function of offering clean, affordable and efficient natural gas.

Our customers recognize the need to access reliable energy and having a local public natural gas utility is the best way to do that. There are many other benefits of having a public natural gas utility, for example:

1. Public natural gas utilities are directly accountable to the citizens they serve, and decisions regarding your energy needs are made locally through citizen participation instead of being made outside of the community.

2. Public natural gas utilities are locally controlled operations, which ensures that rates remain competitive and affordable. This is especially reassuring as energy and fuel prices continue to rise and affect your family’s bottom line.

3. Lastly, public natural gas can play a valuable role in helping broaden our tax base and helps local dollars stay at home. We also work with local financial institutions and make purchases from local businesses. This, in turn, improves the local economy and creates jobs.

We’re here for our community and invite you to join us this week at the Utility Barbecue on Oct. 4 at the Fieldhouse. If you have any questions regarding your public natural gas utility or your upcoming energy needs, please feel free to reach out to Tony Behrends, Gas Superintendent, at 970-542-3910.

The Morgan County Office of Emergency Management is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a volunteer information meeting for the public to learn how they can help our local community by volunteering with the Red Cross.

In addition to education programs offered by Red Cross, a specific need is for individuals across Morgan County to assist with setting up local shelters in the event of an emergency or severe weather.

This meeting will provide information on programs offered by the Red Cross, what help is needed, and how to volunteer if interested.
