🚨🇺🇸Some cold wind out there today at Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield, but not cold enough to practice putting some good (O2) WIND back into the training mannequin's lungs.

Members of the Fort Stewart- Hunter Army Airfield Directorate of Emergency Services got some good CPR training in today. This helps their mission by helping them recognize the steps, being able to visualize, verbalize, and walk people through a possible life saving incident, AND quite possibly helping those in need that might be around them.

One team, one fight! Don't forget, in case of emergency call or text 9-1-1!🚨🇺🇸

Firefighters conducted Roof Ventilation and Aerial Operations training this morning at Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield.

What is ventilation?
It is the systematic removal of heat, smoke and fire gases from a structure.

Why do we ventilate?
Simply put, we ventilate fires to improve interior conditions and to reduce the chance of getting people (civilians and firefighters) hurt or killed.

When do we ventilate?
Ventilation is considered prior to fire crews operating inside of the structure. Not all fires or buildings are created equally and the Incident Commander must make this decision quickly.

Although tornadoes occur in many parts of the world, they are more frequent in the United States. On average, 1,200 tornadoes cause 70 fatalities and 1,500 injuries nationwide each year. Tornadoes can occur at any time of the year and most often strike between 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm. In the southern states, peak tornado season is March through May. In the northern states, peak tornado season is June through August.

Safety basics

A tornado's path of destruction can be more than one mile wide and 50 miles long and can devastate a neighborhood in seconds. You may have little warning, so preparation and planning are key to reducing injuries. It's important to know what to do before, during, and after a tornado:
Before

Know a safe place: Know the safe places at home, work and at school. Locate local shelters and be aware of the tornado risk in your county or parish.
• Practice tornado drills at home and school.
• Have a plan for how family members will contact one another during an emergency. Establish an out-of-area contact (such as a relative or family friend) who can coordinate family members' locations and information should you become separated. Make sure children learn the phone numbers and addresses, and know the emergency plans.
• Prepare a family disaster supplies kit. Families with children should have each child create their own personal pack.

During

During a tornado watch:
• Remain inside, away from windows and doors.
• Listen to the radio or TV. Keep a battery-operated radio or a NOAA Weather Radio.
• Make sure your family disaster supplies kit is complete.
• Be alert during a thunderstorm watch. Severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Being prepared will give you more time should the weather turn severe.
During a tornado warning - Listen to the radio or TV for weather updates and instructions from local officials. Quick action and planning ahead can save your life! If you get caught in a tornado, know what to do: take shelter immediately; stay away from windows, corners, doors and outside walls; be aware of flying debris. Crouch on the floor near an interior wall or under a heavy object, such as a table. Bend over and place your arms on the back of your head and neck (which are injured more easily than other parts of your body).

After

Continue to listen to the news and weather updates. Stay away from power lines and broken glass. Be aware of the possibility of broken gas lines and chemical spills. If you smell gas or chemical fumes, immediately evacuate the area and contact authorities. Stay out of damaged buildings and return home only after authorities have issued an all-clear signal.

Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield 3rd Infantry Division THIS is EXACTLY why leaving heating appliances, combustibles, and curious pets UNATTENDED is a dangerous mix.

PLEASE ensure that all space heaters and other heat producing devices (or appliances) are Underwriters Laboratory (UL) approved, and THREE FEET away from any combustible items.

Curious Pup Caused Home Fire. LAFD responded to a structure fire where two pets had evacuated safely. LAFD recommends homeowners ensure that smoke alarms are installed and working, that no combustible items be placed on or within three feet of heating devices or heat producing appliances. Another important safety practice is to have an escape plan as demonstrated perfectly in the video.

Today, your Fort Stewart-HAAF Fire Department firefighters got the chance to put some reclaimed shipping pallets to good use.

This type of unconventional training, conducted in a risk-mitigated environment, allows your fire crews to perfect their skills of vertical ventilation techniques.

These skills, when used in a true emergency, can greatly reduce property damage, and increase survivability chances of anyone inside a fire building.

Mass. officials warning parents of new viral video that may result in house fire

Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield and surrounding community.

There is a new viral trend involving a penny and an iPhone charger which may result in causing a house fire.

Lets get ahead of this and ensure that we are speaking with our youths about how dangerous this is before someone gets badly hurt.

Safety tips to share:
- Always insert plugs fully into sockets.
- If you have young children, install tamper-resistant electrical outlets.
- Replace wall outlets if plugs do not fit tightly.
- Do not overload outlets.
- Never force a three-pronged plug into a two-slot outlet.

A big thank you to Fort Campbell Fire and Emergency Services for getting the word out to the fire community quickly on this matter.
