I have long admired Kate for her wisdom, creativity, and I’m thankful to get to call her a friend too. She’s often one of my team’s go to resources for music therapy supervision & I’d highly recommend all of her online materials and podcasts!

Pokémon cards, but make it music therapy?

I’m always SO impressed by the creativity of our team - one of our therapists came up with the idea to customize Pokémon cards on Canva to include musical responses when played. If you look closely enough, each musical response also corresponds in some way to the Pokémon’s appearance or powers.

I made a Taylor Swift version of guess the song based on the first few notes of the melody. It’s a fun challenge to work on fine motor skills (with the adapted music), executive functioning, and resiliency / problem solving.

While I unfortunately can’t share, something like this is easy to make! I used snapshots from an easy play arrangement I have access to and formatted them on canva.

There’s gotta be more ways to use scarves as movement props in music therapy sessions, right? Here’s some scarf exercises that you can do with two people to work on motor skills, coordination, cross body movements, and regulation! Just pick your favorite song and find a partner. 💃🏻

We are one week out from our Internship Early Application Deadline! We have two spots open for our January 2027 start date! 📢

Aspire Music Therapy is a National Roster Internship Site. We’re a private practice located in Fort Wayne, IN working with a wide range of ages and clientele.

What sets Aspire apart?
- We have a wide variety of clientele we work with - ID/DD (of all ages with additional mental health diagnoses, physical disabilities, speech disorders, etc), hospice, nursing home groups, and other community opportunities as they come up! Interns are able to receive a well-rounded learning experience.
- We have a team of 9 strong music therapists, with several approved to be national roster internship supervisors. Interns have the opportunity to learn from multiple therapists consistently to get exposure to a variety of perspectives and skills. We also have spots for two interns each start date, so interns may have a peer during their internship!
- In order to help interns adjust to full-time clinical work, we have a tiered schedule to introduce clients, documentation, and assignments. We think this best sets up interns to adjust to the change in schedule from college life and promote effective learning.
- We help interns prepare for the CBMT exam with dedicated study time and resources provided.
- We are happy to discuss the option of flexible scheduling, if part time is needed.
- We provide a $2500 stipend over the course of the internship.
- Our internship experience is tailored to the intern’s learning objectives and needs, as much as we’re able to accommodate.
- We have a beautiful clinic space that interns have access to work throughout the week! Fully stocked with snacks 😉
