CERT Fort Worth

CERT Fort Worth Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a volunteer program designed to teach civilians disaster response at home and in their own community
(2)

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

The Hurricane Laura Evacuee Shelters in downtown Fort Worth at the Embassy Suites and Sheraton Hotels have finished their sheltering mission and have been closed. Fort Worth CERT was asked to maintain a 24 hours around clock presence there to run the Evacuee Tracking Network for our part of the operations. We were deployed there for 7 days helping in a variety of ways and as always our CERT volunteer were awesome at everything assigned to them.

Fort Worth CERT has some of the best volunteers around! They came to help at the TCC South Campus COVID Test Site yesterday, with several of them working double shifts!. The temperature reached 106* with a heat index as high as 112-114.
As always, they kept right on going with great attitudes helping to keep things running. The site had over 400+ cars come through in a 8 hours period so they were pretty busy most of the day. Our volunteers continue to amaze us with their dedication to our City and our citizens!

Fort Worth CERT deployed to the JP Elder COVID Test Site on Northside to assist with the operations of this testing location. CERT was tasked with Check Ins, Registration and distributing the Test Kits to people in their vehicles. It all ran very smoothly with our CERT volunteers getting a lot of compliments from the Command running the site for how well they adapted and kept things going at their assignments. I appreciate the confidence from my Command Staff and other Departments involved in our CERT Program to work safely and follow the protocols set in place. In times of trouble Fort Worth CERT is ready and willing to help how ever we can.

Good Morning Everybody!
So as you all know by now I am a serious coffee drinker. So I had an issue come up this week at work. The picture on the left is the approved way to wear our mask but really creates a problem with the ole morning coffee! The picture on the right is my new and improved way to wear the mask that allows me to enjoy the ole cup of Joe! As an added bonus, If I can't see the 'Rona, then the 'Rona can't see me! Right?!

In all seriousness I just wanted to add some humor to your day. I hope all of you and your family and friends are healthy and well. I miss you all and am definitely ready to get back to all things CERT.

Texas Emergency Management

Due to the continuation of the Corona Virus Outbreak the Fort Worth May Basic CERT Class has been canceled. The class was scheduled to be held in the same building that houses a number of the Fort Worth Police Criminal Investigation Units like Homicide, Major Case, Robbery, Crime Scene Search Unit etc., and we cannot risk an exposure at this location.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call, text, or email me.

As soon as this outbreak clears up we will hold several classes on Saturdays, and Tue/Thu nights to make up for the canceled classes. I want to thank you for signing up for this class and hope this does not discourage you from signing up again in the future.

I wanted to take a minute and tell all of you that have called, texted and emailed checking on me how much I appreciate it. I have been reassigned to Sgt Bach/SEER and am working in the EOC and assisting SEER in the field.
A number of you have contacted me with offers to help whereever needed and I cannot say enough about how awesome you all are. I have mentioned this to my Command and they appreciate your willingness to help others.
Right now I am asking that you take care of yourself, your family and friends by keeping everyone safe and limit exposure as best you can. If you have specific questions call me and I will answer as best I can.

Last Saturday Fort Worth CERT deployed to the Fort Worth Stock Show Parade in downtown Fort Worth with 20 CERT volunteers. This is a prestigious event for our city and it was awesome to be a part of the security and safety for it. I could not ask any more of our CERT volunteers. They were organized, had good radio discipline and patrolled in the areas they were assigned to. They never fail to impress me with their care and concern for our citizens and 1st Responders of our city.

Monday, November 11th, Fort Worth CERT deployed to the Veteran's Day Parade in downtown. What started as a short sleeve nice day, suddenly turned into low 40's, wind out of the north at 40 to 50 mph, and windchill in low 30's. All of our volunteers quickly adapted gearing up in coats, gloves, and hats and continued their foot patrols around the parade. Their dedication is always top shelf! Weather aside we all still enjoyed the Parade and getting to be a part of FWPD's plan for this event.

On Saturday. November 2nd, Fort Worth CERT along with Denton County CERT participated in a Joint Exercise in the Training Village at the Bob Bolen Safety Complex. We learned a lot from Denton County who ran the exercise portion of this event. We had 108 total volunteers, which included Saginaw High School ROTC's, and FEMA Strike Teams Jade and Sapphire who role-played as our victims. I really appreciated them helping us with this exercise which gave it a good sense of realism. Our Fort Worth CERT volunteers helped me in all aspects of this event keeping everything running smoothly in the background. We are already talking about another larger exercise in the Spring of 2020 with more area CERT's involved.

We have some awesome folks in our Fort Worth CERT Program! At this year's FWPD Trunk or Treat Dan and Julie Tribble, set up an interactive booth for the kids and had a long line of kids the entire event and were so nice and helpful working with the kids of all ages. They enjoy doing this and have big hearts when it comes to kids and families. I can not say enough about our CERT volunteers and their commitment to our city and community! Thank You, Dan & Julie!!!

On September 12th Fort Worth CERT helped with the Tunnel 2 Towers 5K Benefit Run at Clearfork. Including the Eagle Mountian Saginaw ISD Air Force ROTC's, we had 39 volunteers at this event. I am humbled by how quickly they all stepped up on short notice when I reached out for help. All of our volunteers had a great time and it was an honor to help T2T's, an organization that helped the family of one of our own when it was really needed. I look forward to working with them again next year!

CERT assisted today at the Tarrant County Senior Jamboree at YMCA Camp Carter. As I watched our CERT volunteers helping the seniors off and on the buses and mules, giving them directions, and helping them get in line to register. I realized yet again, what a great group of people our CERT volunteers are, and that they truly care about the people in our community.

We finished our September Basic CERT class last Saturday with 21 volunteers completing the training with our youngest volunteer, a 13 year old honor student who was outstanding. Everyone had a good time and all stated they learned a lot and several new skills that they can use in their daily life. Some of the things they learned were how to properly use a Fire Extinguisher, how to take off soiled medical gloves, splinting and Stop the Bleed, and Search and Rescue techniques.

THANK YOU CERT Fort Worth for being one of our 2019 partners!
The family of fallen Fort Worth police officer Garrett Hull received a very generous and unexpected Christmas gift this week -- a paid off mortgage.
Thank you FW CERT for 298 pair of socks! We're off to an awesome start all thanks to you! As Hurricane Dorian moves towards Florida I am reminded of this time 2 years ago when hurricane Harvey struck the gulf coast, doing the most damage to the Houston and south east Texas area. Thousands displaced with some bussed to Dallas and Ft. Worth for safety, food, shelter, and social services to move forward. Was proud to be part of running the Ft. Worth shelter as a volunteer with our local CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) group. Hoping for the best for the folks weathering the storm in Florida and wherever else it makes landfall.
The training is very thorough and challenging. The teachers are fantastic.
We made the delivery this morning. Thanks for all the help!
Thanks Fort Worth CERT!!
568 pairs of socks!!! Thanks for coming through CERT Fort Worth!
Thanks so much for joining in on our 2017 sock drive. Fort Worth CERT donated 101 pair of socks to add to our total. This year we had 5,308 pair of socks donated. Add to that 370 other items our total donations totaled 5,678 from 13 community churches, schools, youth groups, neighborhoods, and volunteer organizations. And we still hope to have some more socks trickle in!
Hi there, I just signed up through the website, and it says there is a class tonight, but it doesn't say where? I would like to attend. I have already taken IS-100,IS-200,IS-700,IS-800. I also have my CPR/AED and First Aid. Any assistance you can provide would be useful, thanks!
It's Sunday on a Holiday weekend. I have 23 volunteers working for CERT from 10 different cities, counties, and groups. Yesterday my daughter called me and my fellow officers everydayheros. In my mind these volunteers are the everydayheros.
