CERT Fort Worth

CERT Fort Worth Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a volunteer program designed to teach civilians disaster response at home and in their own community
(6)

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

For our February CERT Meeting we had 45 people in attendance. FWPD Helicopter Pilot Mike LaGrave gave a presentation on Helicopter Operations and Landing Zones. FWPD Officer Jaskie spoke about the Spotter's responsibilities and what it's like to be assigned to Air One. Our Community Programs Command Staff joined us and I would like to give a big shout out to Captain Stockton, Lieutenant Conrad, and Lieutenant Garrett for supporting our CERT Program and all that we do.

Last Saturday Fort Worth CERT deployed to the Fort Worth Stock Show Parade in downtown Fort Worth with 20 CERT volunteers. This is a prestigious event for our city and it was awesome to be a part of the security and safety for it. I could not ask any more of our CERT volunteers. They were organized, had good radio discipline and patrolled in the areas they were assigned to. They never fail to impress me with their care and concern for our citizens and 1st Responders of our city.

Monday, November 11th, Fort Worth CERT deployed to the Veteran's Day Parade in downtown. What started as a short sleeve nice day, suddenly turned into low 40's, wind out of the north at 40 to 50 mph, and windchill in low 30's. All of our volunteers quickly adapted gearing up in coats, gloves, and hats and continued their foot patrols around the parade. Their dedication is always top shelf! Weather aside we all still enjoyed the Parade and getting to be a part of FWPD's plan for this event.

On Saturday. November 2nd, Fort Worth CERT along with Denton County CERT participated in a Joint Exercise in the Training Village at the Bob Bolen Safety Complex. We learned a lot from Denton County who ran the exercise portion of this event. We had 108 total volunteers, which included Saginaw High School ROTC's, and FEMA Strike Teams Jade and Sapphire who role-played as our victims. I really appreciated them helping us with this exercise which gave it a good sense of realism. Our Fort Worth CERT volunteers helped me in all aspects of this event keeping everything running smoothly in the background. We are already talking about another larger exercise in the Spring of 2020 with more area CERT's involved.

We have some awesome folks in our Fort Worth CERT Program! At this year's FWPD Trunk or Treat Dan and Julie Tribble, set up an interactive booth for the kids and had a long line of kids the entire event and were so nice and helpful working with the kids of all ages. They enjoy doing this and have big hearts when it comes to kids and families. I can not say enough about our CERT volunteers and their commitment to our city and community! Thank You, Dan & Julie!!!

On September 12th Fort Worth CERT helped with the Tunnel 2 Towers 5K Benefit Run at Clearfork. Including the Eagle Mountian Saginaw ISD Air Force ROTC's, we had 39 volunteers at this event. I am humbled by how quickly they all stepped up on short notice when I reached out for help. All of our volunteers had a great time and it was an honor to help T2T's, an organization that helped the family of one of our own when it was really needed. I look forward to working with them again next year!

Last Saturday Fort Worth CERT deployed to the Bell Textron Alliance Air Show. What a great weekend it was for the Air Show. Record attendance, and perfect weather. We assisted with several lost children and parents and helped get aid to several people not feeling well. We staffed the Sky boxes and conducted foot patrols. Thank you Mercedes Financial for letting us use your parking lot for our Command Post.

CERT assisted today at the Tarrant County Senior Jamboree at YMCA Camp Carter. As I watched our CERT volunteers helping the seniors off and on the buses and mules, giving them directions, and helping them get in line to register. I realized yet again, what a great group of people our CERT volunteers are, and that they truly care about the people in our community.

We finished our September Basic CERT class last Saturday with 21 volunteers completing the training with our youngest volunteer, a 13 year old honor student who was outstanding. Everyone had a good time and all stated they learned a lot and several new skills that they can use in their daily life. Some of the things they learned were how to properly use a Fire Extinguisher, how to take off soiled medical gloves, splinting and Stop the Bleed, and Search and Rescue techniques.

Wanted to do a big shout out to a couple of our CERT members who attended the three day Wide Area Search class put on by LSU in Weatherford earlier this month. To Thomas Johnson and Joseph Ward a big Thank You for taking this course and furthering your education in the emergency response world. While they were there they found that a fellow student was Mickey Kimbrow who was a previous CERT member with Fort Worth and accepted a position with the Red Cross in Amarillo TX.

Fort Worth CERT also deployed to the FWPD Commsnd Staff Community Clean Up in Northwest Division today. It was very hot and muggy, but as always my CERT volunteers took care of their part quickly and without complaint and then looked after the citizens that walked up getting them for and water. I could not ask for better folks to work with.

Fort Wort CERT participated in the Fort Worth OEM Active Shooter Exercise at Trimble Tech High School today. Our CERT folks were there with roughly 150 other volunteers to role play as victims, walking wounded and deceased persons. I think the exercise went well for the police officers and firefighters involved as I saw them working well together.

We finished our Teen CERT class on Friday afternoon with the Eagle Mountian-Saginaw Air Force ROTC and I am sorry that it is over. First, I want to say Thank You to the all the people that helped me with this class, without you, there is no way I could have incorporated as much into the class or allowed these teens to experience everything they did while they were here. These teens are truly fun to work with and I see a bright future for them. They put 100% into this class and it showed! Corporal John Lamond explained the Physical Assessment Test and then demonstrated what all FWPD applicants have to do to pass this part of their application. While we were doing our scenerio training and sharing the Training Village with SWAT they invited the teens to watch some of their training from the catwalks. I am pretty sure that we inspired several of these teens to consider a future in Law Enforcement!

Last month, Fort Worth CERT assisted with a large Chemical, Biological, Radiation, Nuclear, Explosive (CBRNE) exercise at the Bob Bolen Safety Complex. We were asked to play victims, witnesses, and actors. Once again our CERT volunteers did an excellent job and we were told without them it would have been hard to do the exercise. I think they really enjoyed getting to play different roles!

Last Thursday, our CERT Unit was asked to come and help with the Como Community Clean Up. 4 houses with elderly widows were selected and the FWPD Command Staff and a number of West Division NPO's and officers came out to help with trimming trees, clearing brush and moving items to be hauled away to the curb. Afterward, everyone met at the Como Community Center where CERT grilled hotdogs and served a meal to everyone. It was a great opportunity to meet the Command Staff in a relaxed atmosphere and we were very grateful to be a part of this. There are five more of these Clean Up's planned in the coming weeks. They are all on weeknights and will be in each of the 6 divisions around the city. We would love to have you come to one of them and meet with our Command Staff, neighborhood leaders, and get to know our CERT Team.

Melanie Leonard one of our CERT Instructors and an RN for many years taught this class in which we learned all about triaging and disaster medicine. we also learned how to remove medical gloves, apply a tourniquet and pack a wound in the Stop the Bleed portion. THANK YOU CERT Fort Worth for being one of our 2019 partners!
The family of fallen Fort Worth police officer Garrett Hull received a very generous and unexpected Christmas gift this week -- a paid off mortgage.
Thank you FW CERT for 298 pair of socks! We're off to an awesome start all thanks to you! Like or follow our page if you'd like to keep track of our progress. https://www.facebook.com/friendssockdrive/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel&eid=ARA7okhHLd-T-onTzWJxru4wzHU96Nsgypnn5FdIZ53JVAhInUcZDksQ4D301jfVx78g15s_IAbYTZR6
As Hurricane Dorian moves towards Florida I am reminded of this time 2 years ago when hurricane Harvey struck the gulf coast, doing the most damage to the Houston and south east Texas area. Thousands displaced with some bussed to Dallas and Ft. Worth for safety, food, shelter, and social services to move forward. Was proud to be part of running the Ft. Worth shelter as a volunteer with our local CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) group. Hoping for the best for the folks weathering the storm in Florida and wherever else it makes landfall.
The training is very thorough and challenging. The teachers are fantastic.
We made the delivery this morning. Thanks for all the help!
Thanks Fort Worth CERT!!
568 pairs of socks!!! Thanks for coming through CERT Fort Worth!
Thanks so much for joining in on our 2017 sock drive. Fort Worth CERT donated 101 pair of socks to add to our total. This year we had 5,308 pair of socks donated. Add to that 370 other items our total donations totaled 5,678 from 13 community churches, schools, youth groups, neighborhoods, and volunteer organizations. And we still hope to have some more socks trickle in!
Hi there, I just signed up through the website, and it says there is a class tonight, but it doesn't say where? I would like to attend. I have already taken IS-100,IS-200,IS-700,IS-800. I also have my CPR/AED and First Aid. Any assistance you can provide would be useful, thanks!
It's Sunday on a Holiday weekend. I have 23 volunteers working for CERT from 10 different cities, counties, and groups. Yesterday my daughter called me and my fellow officers everydayheros. In my mind these volunteers are the everydayheros.
