We are living in a time where people want and expect their leaders to be more human, less perfect, and at times a bit vulnerable.

By doing so, you build trust, promote the right (growth) mindset, and inspire others...because they can relate (to you).

Have a fantastic Monday, folks. Take some time to invest in you. You’ll be better for it. #character #competence #leadersweneed #makeitcount #team19 #growthmindset #startwithyou #purpose

Happy Birthday, sir, from your friends & family at the 301st Fighter Wing!

Happy birthday to a living legend, Col Gail Halvorsen, aka the “Berlin Candy Bomber.”

Col Halvorsen turns 100 today!

Heritage fact: Following World War II, then-Lt Halvorsen used his C-54 Skymaster to deliver more than 23 tons of candy to the children of Berlin at schools and hospitals during “Operation Little Vittles.” He started this effort with no authorization from his leadership, yet wanted to raise morale in Berlin by dropping candy via miniature parachute to the city's residents. Over the next year he became a national hero with support from all over the United States.

We are a better Air Force because of Airmen like Col Gail Halverson. 🇺🇸

Reserve Citizen Airmen traditionally face the synonymous stressors of balancing home life and civilian careers with maintaining readiness in their military service. 2020, however, has multiplied many of these stressors and Airmen need to know they’re not alone. This year Mary Arnold, Director of Psychological Health, along with 301 FW Violence Prevention Integrator Jimm Harper, spearheaded a new initiative called the Traumatic Stress Response Team (TSRT). Read the story and more on the initiative through the attached link!

Warriors, did you know that we have multiple Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) initiatives occurring around our wing? The Air Force CPI program leverages #Airmen innovation and new technologies to create a continuous cycle of process improvement and change in culture. The goal of the program is to improve mission execution while reducing costs, which ultimately maximizes customer value of the force. Pictured is our 301 MDS CPI team, who worked over the October UTA to improve our wing’s Hearing Conservation Program! (Courtesy Photo)

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to highlight the significant, historical events for various Hispanic communities. Each year, the U.S. president issues a proclamation calling on the American people to observe this time with appropriate ceremonies and activities. Hispanic Americans have had a profound and positive influence on our country through their strong commitment to faith, hard work, and service.

Thank you for continuing to honor the past while securing the future. - 301 FW Equal Opportunity Office

Boil Water Notice Rescinded
9/30/2020

On 9/23/2020, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the NAS JOINT RESERVE BASE public water system, TX2200332, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of 9/30/2020.

Honor. Respect. Remember. 🇺🇸

Wingmen — Since 1936, our nation has recognized the last Sunday of September as Gold Star Mother’s Day. In 2011, we included the recognition of all Gold Star family members on this day.

A Gold Star Family is the immediate family member(s) of a fallen service member who died while serving in a time of conflict.

May we never forget, and may we always honor the families of the Fallen.

They, too, have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Honor. Respect. Remember.

Recently, members of the 73rd Aerial Port Squadron engaged in joint training missions with our Active Duty partners with the 39 AS and 40 AS located at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas. This is the first time this type of training training has been done in unit history and reinforced our total force integration platform. The training provided an opportunity to develop loadmasters and #PortDawgs alike to ensure some real world application! (U.S. Air Force photos by Chief Master Sgt. Landon Bonds)

We are the 301st Fighter Wing. We are mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, friends and wingmen. We have challenges, struggles, and hardships, but we have each other. The month of September is observed as Suicide Prevention Month and we challenge the members of our wing, along with service members Department of Defense wide to be there for those struggling in our force. Teammates — we hear you.

Continuing in unprecedented times....managing official/primary duties, child care, virtual schooling, and a whole lot more under this pandemic.

Because we want to give you ample time to prepare and focus on making fitness a LIFESTYLE, and maintain precautions as needed, we have pushed official PT testing to 1 Jan 2021.

Additionally, this push gives us some time to look at PT tests, and fitness as a whole, to make sure it’s on-point with the Air Force we need.

Fitness builds our resilience. Resilience builds our READINESS. And all of that breeds CULTURE.

Team, take a read of the below message from our Commander regarding the selection of our new Vice Wing Commander! Welcome to the team Col Amundson! 🇺🇸

“Warriors,
We are rapidly approaching a change in our leadership team. Last Saturday we wished Col Cason a fond farewell and we certainly wish him and his family all the best in the next job and in the future. He has been an incredible teammate and I know we will miss him.

I am pleased to announce that we have found the right person to succeed Col Cason as our next Vice Wing Commander, Col Korey “Axe” Amundson. Col Amundson has extensive experience in the F-16, is a graduated group commander, and comes to us from his most recent assignment at the F-35 Joint Program Office.

Axe, welcome to the team! I look forward to working with you in your new role and getting you acquainted with this amazing team.

Please tell your spouses what the Gold Star parking space is for at the BX. I "caught" a woman parking in it and when I asked her if she knew what the gold star meant. She shrugged her shoulders, said "no" and kept walking. I stopped her (and proudly held my anger in check) and explained what a Gold Star Family is and asked her if she qualified. Of course, she did not, so I waited until she moved her vehicle before I left. It's disgraceful that she did not know what it meant.
