Today's storm timing... in short, severe weather is likely across most of the area. Large hail and a few tornadoes will be possible with initial storms along the i35 Corridor between 2-5pm, especially if we get some sunshine. Storms will then merge into a solid and quickly moving squall line and surge east with a widespread damaging wind threat across the eastern part of Texas, with quick forming tornadoes potentially forming along portions of the leading edge of the powerful line of storms...

A lot of wild weather over the next 36 to 48 hours. A warm day Friday will lead to showers and thunderstorms as a cold front approaches the area by mid-to-late afternoon. Two potential areas of severe storms will exist. One will be with any storm that can form well out ahead of the cold front and remain isolated. These storms would be the storms most capable of producing tornadoes. As a cold front begins moving across the area a line of severe storms will form later in the afternoon somewhere along the I-35 corridor. This line of storms will rapidly move east and be capable of producing widespread damaging winds. Isolated tornadoes may also occur within the line. It is very important that with the image below you do not look at necessarily the colors but at the risk as a whole. The exact same risks are possible regardless of the color, the color just shows where a higher spread of storms could be. In the case below, the brighter color is for the likelihood of widespread damaging wind gust

As the low pressure system moves just north of the DFW area Saturday morning, wrap-around snowfall will be possible across Oklahoma and far Northern portions of North Texas. At this time it does not appear that any accumulations Will occur, with the absolute most severe possibility leading to a quick burst that could accumulate on some grassy surfaces but that is highly unlikely.

Severe weather chances for the area Friday continue, with a slight westward movement in the risk area. Damagimg winds look to be the biggest threat, with a couple of tornadoes embedded in the line or potentially with a storm or 2 ahead of the line if they can form. Additionally heavy rain is likely with flash flooding possible across NE TX and points N into OK and ARK. As the low pressure moves East of the area on Saturday morning, wrap-around moisture will create snow. Most accumulations should be in Northern Oklahoma into Kansas but flurries and some very light snow as far south as 380 could be possible with no accumulation expected at this time, but a cool day in mostly the 40s can be expected. Still looking at a likely surge of cooler air to close next week.

With rain and severe storm chances to close this work week, the middle to end of next week still looks to deliver the coldest air we have seen yet this season. This sample point is taken just NW of the metroplex, and is only a computer model and not necessarily reality. Beyond believing that the very cold air is coming, it is to far out to make any other guesses, so stay tuned

A nice start to the week but showers return Thursday and a chance of heavy rain and storms on Friday. Early Saturday morning there could even be just a little bit of the white stuff across the Red River area. Big cold front still looks to arrive Tuesday evening and overnight of next week, with temperatures plummeting into the teens and 20s at night and temperatures only in the 20's and 30's for highs by mid-week. It is still early and that could change, so stay tuned.
