When the United States Army of Corps Engineers built the existing levee system in Fort Worth, a large section of the Trinity River in Gateway Park was cut off leaving behind a dry oxbow harming both the terrestrial and aquatic habitat. The valley storage work in the park, as part of the Central City Project, has restored the natural course of the river and is thereby restoring the natural aquatic habitat that once existed in this area. This video shows a great example of this restoration effort as part of the USACE Phase 1 valley storage work in the park.

At a high level, there are two main factors that create our flood risks. Fort Worth has nearly tripled in size since the current levee system was built and, just after the West Fork and Clear Fork merge below the downtown bluff there is a 90° turn in the Trinity River that prevents high water events from quickly passing through the area. Read about these risks and the measures being taken to protect the area at https://pantherislandcc.com/blog-did-you-know-what-key-factors-create-our-flood-risks.php

Fort Worth's Fourth

We hope you had a great Fourth of July with your family and friends. Thank you to all that watched the fireworks at home and from afar to allow for a safe experience for everyone. This year’s show celebrated those who fought for our freedom and honored our first responders, healthcare workers, and everyone on the front line. It would not have been possible without the generous donations from Lockheed Martin and TRWD - Tarrant Regional Water District. Special thanks to media partners KDFW, FOX 4 News, and 95.9 The Ranch for providing a way to safely watch the fireworks and celebrate our Nation’s birthday.

Check out some photos taken by local photographers from the show.

Our Story

Panther Island- The City of Fort Worth’s Comprehensive Plan calls for sustainable growth in all areas in close proximity to downtown Fort Worth. The district due north of downtown, Panther Island, has been rezoned by the City of Fort Worth to provide a mixed-used district of greater density. The district is impacted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood control project; however, no federal money is being used to accomplish the City’s sustainable growth goals for the district.

Central City Flood Project - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Central City Flood Control Project addresses Fort Worth's flood risks resulting from explosive population growth. The two main components are: the rerouting of a section of the Trinity River north of downtown and modifying a large park on the city's east side to better manage flood events.

HEY TRV..... I found the guy that’s building the White settlement bridges...... he was picking his nose by the Taco Bell on Henderson, no wonder it’s taking years......
My friend's dog is MISSING & we need all the help we can get. Please be on the look-out for Bert - a 70 LB black mixed lab. Short straight black coat w/ a grey undercoat. About 30" tall. Bert's wearing a black and red checkered collar with a blue leash still possibly attached. He's chipped but "Bert" tag may be missing. Last seen near Gateway Park. If found, please take to a vet or call 254-722-8853.

What’s the story with Riverside Park? Been behind a fence for a really long time... just moved into the area and would like to use the trail head.... thanks in advance
ft worth > dallas. sorry not sorry. #truth
Are there any plans to improve Jacksboro Highway between downtown and Lake Worth? Over the last thirty years this busy stretch of highway has been passed over while growth and progress go on all around Fort Worth. What will be done to alleviate the growing traffic issues? And I'm quite certain a roundabout at Henderson and White Settlement is NOT the answer.
Hey, TRV.....when is the trail on the north side of the river, between beach and the lwc @ 4th gonna open back up...yall r killing my routes....killing them.

I was just curious if a proposal toAmazon has been thought about as a potential tenant and developer to the Panther Island project. It seems like a match made in heaven. Lots of available land ripe for development next to Downtown.
