🇺🇸 Today, we join our community in pausing to pay tribute to the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. We owe our freedoms to their profound courage and selfless dedication.

As you gather with family, friends, and loved ones today we hope you take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of this holiday and hold the families of our fallen heroes in your thoughts.

Wishing everyone a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

Yesterday we highlighted our stations and coverage areas. Today, we are looking back at the numbers that kept our crews moving throughout 2025.

By the Numbers: Macon County EMS in 2025

• Total Calls Responded To: 7,838
• Busiest Month: May
• Busiest Day of the Week: Wednesday
• Busiest Time of Day: 1:00 PM
• Total Miles Traveled with a Patient: 44,243 miles

To put that distance into perspective, our units traveled enough miles with patients on board to circle the globe nearly twice! Whether it is a busy Wednesday afternoon in May or the middle of the night in December, we are incredibly proud of the dedication it takes to serve our community around the clock.

Thank you for trusting us with your care. Stay tuned for more updates as EMS Week 2026 continues!

To help celebrate EMS week 2026, we will be highlighting different aspects of Macon County EMS each day on our page.

We are kicking things off by taking a look at our daily staffing and coverage. Our dedicated crews work around the clock across the county to ensure we are always ready to respond when you need us most.

Here is how our units and personnel are strategically positioned to serve our community:

Franklin Base: 3 ambulances staffed full-time (24/7), plus 1 day truck operating from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Highlands Base: 1 ambulance staffed full-time.

Nantahala Base: 1 ambulance staffed full-time.

From 8:30 am until 6:00 pm we have one of our Franklin Trucks stationed at the old Otto Fire Department.

County-Wide Support: 1 Shift Supervisor in a Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) available 24 hours a day, and 1 Community Care Paramedic available Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

By operating out of these stations and providing specialized county-wide support, we strive to keep response times low and provide the highest level of prehospital care across our beautiful county.

Thank you for your continued support, and stay tuned tomorrow for our next EMS Week spotlight! 🚑

Happy National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week!

This week, Macon County EMS would like to take a moment to honor the unseen heroes of our community: our 911 Dispatchers.

Long before our ambulances arrive on the scene, these dedicated professionals are the "first, first responders." They are the calm voices in the chaos, the lifeline for those in distress, and the vital link that keeps our EMS crews informed and safe on the road.

Whether they are providing life-saving medical instructions over the phone or seamlessly coordinating our emergency response, we simply couldn't do what we do without them.

To the incredible dispatchers who work around the clock behind the headset: Thank you. Your dedication, compassion, and quick thinking save lives every single day.
