New England Chapel

(17)

New England Chapel started on a barstool, with one, simple question: What if...? What if church could be different? What if church could be a place where anyone could feel welcome, regardless of their background? What if church could be a place where people could talk about real life issues and ask pressing questions without fear of judgment or shame? What if church could be a place where someone who has given up on church, but not on God, could experience God’s love in a whole new way? We invite you to come and see what church can be, and join us as we continue to grow a “What If” kind of church. Sundays at 10am. newenglandchapel.org

Mission: Our mission is to build authentic community through friendships, small groups and worship where people who have given up on church, but not on God, can experience, embrace, and express the love of God in Jesus Christ so that we can be a blessing within--and beyond--our walls.

The Gospel and the Holy Spirit
Sunday, May 19 at 9am
Small Chapel

The church (rightly) talks a lot about God’s plan to restore the world to himself, and Christ’s role in that restoration through the cross, but have you ever wondered, “That’s great, but what does the Holy Spirit do?” If you want to discuss and discover what the third person of the Trinity—the Holy Spirit—has to do with the gospel and our salvation, come this Sunday morning as Wayne Pitts leads us through the final installment of THE GOSPEL series! 9:00am in small chapel!

Communion Class is quickly approaching.

May 19 at 10am
What is communion all about here at NEC? Seems different from what you may have experienced as a child, doesn't it?
What meaning will it take on for you and your family?
Here's an opportunity to grow in your faith together - as parent and child- as Laura Laird shares how this special meal helps us understand how to participate in every other meal, every other relationship and every other daily experience in our lives.
It may be the best hour you spend with your child and God this week!
* Ages 2nd grade and up accompanied by parent or guardian.

My son/daughter is in first grade and would like to come. Is that Ok?
The easy answer is that it is totally up to you, as the parent, to decide when you feel like your child is ready to take communion. At NEC we don't have a set age or requirement that is necessary before you can participate. If you feel like your child understands the meaning of communion and that they would like to take it, they do not need to wait for the class to do that. That being said, the class covers some of the deeper meaning behind communion and some of the really neat symbolism behind the actions (body/bread, blood/juice and others). These are concepts that might be difficult for a first grader to understand. For this reason, we have geared the class towards the upper elementary kids. It might benefit your child more if you wait a year or two. But again, as the parent, you know your child best and if you feel like they are ready for the information then you are welcome to attend.

Is this just a class to learn about communion or is this considered their first communion? My older children made their first communion in other churches - one was in the catholic church and the other in the episcopal church.
Although we like to think of it as more than “just a class about communion”, it is not a First Communion ceremony in the traditional sense. It is not a requirement that is necessary before your child can take communion at NEC. We like to think of communion as being more about your Relationship with God than a requirement or a ritual. We hope that the class is more of a discussion that helps you and your kids grow in understanding.

Will there by a certificate or any type of ceremony?
While there will be communion at NEC on a Sunday following the class and your child will be welcome to participate, there will not be any special first communion ceremony involved. However, we would like to give your child a gift to help them remember all that they have learned about how much God loves them! Also, we will put their names in the bulletin on the next Sunday when communion is served to recognize this next step that they are taking in their relationship with God.

My son/daughter made communion at our old church. Is she required (or should she) go to this class too?
The class is not a requirement to participate in communion at NEC. It is not necessary that your family take the class. We hope that children and their parents will participate in and enjoy the communion class together because there is so much amazing symbolism involved in communion. In some ways, the meaning behind communion is very simple, but there is so much more to it that can be really encouraging for you and your child/children to know and understand. And while they may not understand it all now, it is an opportunity to plant those seeds and allow God to grow them in their hearts as they mature. It also helps to remove some of the uncertainty they may have about what to expect at NEC and explain some of the differences that they may have observed in various churches that celebrate communion differently. You are welcome to bring along your older children as well. Now that they are older, if they have any questions, they are welcome to join in and discuss those with us!

I've taken communion at NEC before and my child has too. Was that OK or should we have taken the class first?
It is perfectly fine if your child has participated in communion at NEC before taking the class. You as the parent are best able to determine if your son or daughter is ready to take communion. However, you are welcome and encouraged to attend the class even if your child has already taken communion. It is an opportunity to possibly grow in understanding more about communion and to ask any questions or develop your conversation about communion as a family.

I’m not sure if my son or daughter is ready to take communion but they are interested. Should we still take the class?
The class is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about communion and its meaning. If your child is not sure they are ready to take communion after the class, that is just fine. We hope to equip parents to continue the discussion with their families after the class by providing some discussion points and ideas to continue to grow in understanding of all the wonderful meaning involved in celebrating communion. More than anything, we want your child to understand how much Jesus love them!

This Sunday was my 1st visit to NEC and I loved it! Such a relaxing atmosphere and THE WORD came straight through to me. Thank you Pastor for the warm greetings, and to all my new friends I made, Thank you all!
Not sure what we as a community can do, but I just heard about a house fire today in Bellingham. The family just finished moving their things in last night. They have twin boys. I am trying to find any further info and when I do I will post here. Maybe we can help this family in some way. I will be praying for them, such a blessing of a new home but by God’s grace no one was hurt that I am aware of 😞
Had a wonderful time volunteering today Heather Aiello Kempskie I really enjoyed your discussion about finding the red leaf everyday in our lives god bless all
FROM THE GROUND UP *speaker spotlight* 🔦 Rosemary Heath set out on a date night with her beloved husband a little over one year ago that begun a series of events both horrific and heroic. A man was on a violent and murderous rampage which culminated in the shopping mall where Rosemary and her husband had just sat to eat. Upon the madman stabbing a pregnant waitress, Rosemary and her husband George Heath, stood in tandem to aid in saving her. Rosemary's life was spared as an off duty officer who had his firearm ended the assailants' brutality. George, however, had been critically injured and lost his life in a shared act of heroism and unparalleled courage. Rosemary created a scholarship in her husband's name and made it her mission to help other victims of violence as well as keep her promise to live bravely while maintaining her husband's legacy. Rosemary, the nurse who triaged the scene and the officer who saved Rosemary were featured on CNN's, Above the Call of Duty as well as Inside Edition and national media. Rosemary will speak on her survival that night and thereafter as well as answer questions and be available for meet and greets. Do not miss learning from and supporting the standing of this incomparable woman. Seats are limited . Saturday 9/30 10-2 . Cafe items available for purchase during break- beer , wine , coffee , baked goods and lunch. Tickets here ... 🔻 price half off for Go Gold for childhood cancer awareness month ! Rosemary will speak alongside 4 other world changing, ground rising, faithful and God loving women. I too am honored to speak in their company.
