Happy National Dog Day to my little companion and unofficial Notary Force team member, Snipey!

She patiently sits beside me while I handle online notarizations and helps me make the important decisions. More than that, she has been right beside me through the good days, the difficult days, and everything in between.

Every business owner needs a loyal companion, and I’m lucky mine has four paws. 🐾

August 24 always takes me back to 1992.

Hurricane Andrew hit South Florida that day, and I was right in the middle of it.

I remember the devastation, the uncertainty, and the feeling of looking around at a community that suddenly had to figure out how to rebuild. Homes were damaged, businesses were disrupted, routines disappeared, and for a while, no one really knew what “normal” was going to look like again.

What stayed with me most, though, was what happened after the storm.

People reorganized and adapted. Neighbors helped neighbors, businesses figured out how to keep going, and little by little, the community started putting itself back together.

I think about that sometimes in business.

Not every disruption is a hurricane, of course, but businesses go through storms too. A client relationship changes, a deal falls apart, technology shifts, or a process that worked for years suddenly no longer does.

And sometimes, the answer is not to put everything back exactly the way it was.

Sometimes you have to stop and ask: What still works? What needs to change? What can I rebuild better this time?

Living through Hurricane Andrew taught me a lot about resilience long before I ever thought about that word in a business context.

Rebuilding is rarely quick, and it is rarely neat. But sometimes what comes after the disruption is stronger because of what you learned while putting everything back together.

Thirty-four years later, I still remember that.

And if you ever need a notary who understands persistence, problem-solving, and seeing things through, I’d be glad to help.

It's Your Life. Live It Your Way.

One conversation this week reminded me that advice—even when it's well intentioned—is still just advice.

I met a wonderful couple in their late 70s while helping them sign documents for a home renovation project.

Their daughter believes it's time for them to simplify life, move into a condo, and stop worrying about maintaining a home.

But that's not the life they want.

Their dream isn't a maintenance-free lifestyle.

Their dream is a home where grandchildren can come over for movie nights, birthdays, holidays, and memories they'll never forget.

As she proudly shared photos of the renovations, I realized this wasn't about remodeling.

It was about choosing the life they wanted to keep living.

We all reach seasons where people tell us what we should do.

But no one else gets to decide what brings us joy.

As long as we're able, why shouldn't we keep building, creating, learning, and making memories?

That's one of the many life lessons I've learned simply by being a notary.

Every appointment has a story.

Some stay with you long after the signatures are complete.

Everyone learns something during the home-buying process.

Maybe it was budgeting for closing costs.
Maybe it was how important a home inspection is.
Maybe it was something you never expected.

Share your best advice in the comments. You might help someone who's buying their very first home.

“It’s not about the destination. It’s about the journey.”
Whoever said that never sat through a FOUR- hour online notarization. 😂

Being a notary is about so much more than applying a seal. It’s about staying calm, solving problems, and seeing your client through to the finish line—no matter how long it takes.

Yesterday, we made it. 🎉

A special thank-you to Lori Hamm, Executive Director of the American Guild of Notaries Public, for the thoughtful handwritten message and commemorative pin. Her words made this recognition even more meaningful.

I’m proud to be part of an organization working to strengthen professional and ethical standards within the notarial profession—and proud to wear the pin.
