#NeverForget: We mark the 74th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. On Dec. 7, 1941, more than 2,000 Americans lost their lives and more than 1,000 were wounded in a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Honor the men and women who sacrificed their lives, and those who fought and fight to preserve freedom.

At the end of November in 1862, President Lincoln wrote to Union General Burnside who was at the Phillips House in south Stafford. “If I should be in a Boat off Aquia-Creek, at dark to-morrow evening, could you, without inconvenience, meet me & pass an hour or two with me?” Burnisde replied that he would meet him but asked him what boat he would be on. The president left Washington on the steamer “Baltimore.” (This side wheeler had previously been captured from the Confederates. It measured 200 feet in length and weighed 500 tons.) The two met on the boat at Aquia Landing and discussed the taking of Fredericksburg. (The Phillips House later burnt. Today a house sits on the old foundations.)

On this POW/MIA Recognition Day, we pause to remember all those U.S. servicemembers still missing in action
The American Legion remains committed to achieving a full accounting of all U.S. servicemembers from all war eras who are either imprisoned or listed as missing in action. As part of this commitment, the Legion encourages a return of living POWs, repatriation of the remains of the fallen from war zones abroad, or a determination through convincing evidence that neither is possible.

**A Message from Post 290 Bingo** First, we would like to thank you for playing Drive-In Bingo with us during Phase II. Now that we are entering phase III, we are trying to provide Bingo in the safest way for every player to enjoy. Therefore, we are going to continue with Drive-In Bingo. Our main concern is you, our players! Due to the size of our hall and the physical distance requirements, we would have to limit our players to 62. We have had some large crowds, and do not want to limit our attendance, and limit the fun, for people who would like to get out of the house and join our program. Below are some changes to our program in Phase III. 1) We will hold bingo on Fridays only 2) You may bring a table and/or chairs to set up outside your car 3) There will be a pull tab table outside for walk-up sales. Six feet social distancing and masks will still be required. Thank you for all of your support during this time of the unknown. We feel that it would be safer to be more separate as we see how the area does with this phase of reopening. When we feel safe, we will move back indoors. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email or call the Post 290 Bingo Manager. Sincerely, The Bingo Crew Manager Noel Lowery [email protected] 540-903-5251
