This huge pile of clothing and care packets is a snapshot of the generosity of our church.

A few weeks ago we began one of our first outreach initiatives, “Matthew 25 Alive”. It’s a model we adopted from Pastor Vernon to fulfill what Jesus so beautifully challenged us with in Matthew 25:31-46.

This first initiative, we’re giving all items to inmates who are being released and trying to get acclimated back into society. And this Sunday is the final Sunday to donate items. So if you’d like to come alongside Growth Church to be a blessing to newly released inmates throughout the FXBG region, you can drop them off this Sunday morning between 7am and 1130am at Walker Grant Middle School.

Shoutout to Marshall for leading the charge on this first initiative!

Had a great time at the Prince William county Reentry Family Orientation night. What a blessing for so many that were looking for services from jobs to housing, education, training, transportation etc. And to my friend and brother E Jamii Wood for giving an inspirational speech to all that attended. Let's take a step back today and help someone who may need your help. Thanks Skip and Allen West for always giving of yourself to accommodate those in need.

What a Awesome event today for Returning citizens. The DOC's Job and Resource fair at the Arthur Ashe Center in Richmond. Over 50 Job Venders and 30 plus Resource Providers. The people came out in great numbers for this event and came prepared with their resumes in hand. Some where even given free haircuts before they had their interviews. This was a blessed day and so many people left with jobs and numerous resources for their family members that where still incarcerated. One of the best events by far. Great work DOC!!!

James 3

Taming the Tongue

3:1 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. 2 For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. 3 If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. 4 Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.

How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? 12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.
Goodnite FB be kind to each other and speak in love to one another! Blessings to all!

Matthew 5:14-16

14. "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Since 1979, Virginia CARES, Inc., has been the Commonwealth’s only statewide provider of offender reentry services. Our goal is to prevent recidivism by assisting returning citizens in safely and responsibly transitioning from incarceration to a productive, normal life. We operate eleven sites that serve participants in far southwestern Virginia, Tidewater, Southside, Northern Virginia, and many points in between. Virginia CARES began as a pilot program created and operated by Total Action Against Poverty (TAP), a Roanoke-based Community Action Agency noted for successfully developing many innovative spin-off programs. Following several years of productive operations at TAP, Virginia CARES was awarded the necessary funding to become an independent statewide agency. Since incorporating, Virginia CARES has been recognized by organizations across the nation, including Public/Private Ventures and the Ford Foundation.
Impact Statement
Three recent accomplishments: 1) Our goal for 2014 was to have 300 participants signed up for services in which they would receive one of the following areas of need: Housing, Jobs, Clothes, Food, education, transportation, mental health referrals and child care. We surpassed that by 120 participant’s receiving services. 2) We became USDA approved with the Fredericksburg Area Food-bank as a provider for food services for the PD 16 district which covers Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, King George, Caroline and Stafford Counties.3) We opened a 4 bedroom transitional house for returning citizens. This year’s three goals consist of: 1)Working with more community partners to create more housing opportunities for returning citizens in the areas of, Home-ownership counseling, and affordable rental housing programs. 2) Implement programs oriented to Ministry, Mentor-ship, Child and Family Development, and Workforce Development Services. 3) And expand services towards Northern VA and Fauquier
Programs and Services
The Mission Statement: “To lead a state-wide network of re-entry programs that promotes public safety by advocating for returning citizens and providing supportive services to help them live successful lives.” Virginia CARES operates a statewide network of ex-offender reentry programs to provide transitional assistance, financial aid, job readiness training, temporary and full-time employment, job search and career development, human relations & self-awareness training, and ongoing support services to returning citizens and their families in Virginia.
Community Give Fundraising Vision
The monies from the Community Give Event will help in the areas of Housing, Food service, Clothing, Education, part-time employment and transportation which is critical for keeping our participants employment. Whether through bus passes, gas vouchers and organized carpools this is vital to our returning citizens.

Thank you for all you have done in support of this program and its Participants.
