On this day may we take pause to reflect on the horrific events that took place December 7, 1941, killing thousands of Americans, and may our generation and the generations that follow always honor the tireless sacrifice of our Veterans.

What an amazing time with my fellow Commissioners last night at the Allaire Village’s A Christmas Carol performed by Gerald Charles Dickens (the great, great grandson of the literary icon, Charles Dickens) at the Vogel at Count Basie. It was a tremendous performance and a great way to support the Allaire Village in their efforts to preserve the history of this site, and educate the public about life in the Village in 1836. Thank you so much to the Allaire Village for the great work you do to preserve the history for our residents and visitors.

Congratulations to No Limits Cafe as tonight’s honoree at the The Arc of Monmouth’s Annual Winter Glow Gala. These two amazing organizations share the mindset that instead of seeing disabilities, they see the abilities of disabled adults and strive to empower this community. Their inclusive philosophies help those with intellectual and developmental disabilities thrive and reach their truest potential. The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners commends these organizations for their tireless efforts to better the lives of these individuals and thanks them for their contributions to our community.

This morning I had the pleasure of touring the newly expanded Lunch Break facility with their Executive Director, Gwendolyn Love. This project has been a dream of theirs since before Covid, so to see it finally come together is nothing short of gratifying. It's easy to see that this facility was reconstructed with a lot of creative input, gratitude and love. The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners is proud to support organizations like Lunch Break and the work they do for our residents. We are excited for this facility to be up and fully functioning and can't wait to see the joy it will bring to everyone involved. Thank you for all you do.

Today was the first of hopefully many senior listening sessions hosted by our own Senior Advisory Council from the Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans Services. This was an opportunity for us to assess what services are working, which ones we can improve upon and what our senior population would like to see based on their needs. Thank you to the Hazlet Senior Center for hosting and for the various representatives that came out to showcase some of the resources available for them.

Thank you to the Township of Ocean Mayor & Council for having us at their Super Senior Luncheon this afternoon. This luncheon was to recognize seniors who are 85 years and older. Our older citizens have been a key resource in sharing the wisdom and experience that form today's decisions and actions, and fostering the connection and engagement that build string, resilient communities and I am grateful to have been able to celebrate them with my fellow Monmouth County Commissioner Tom Arnone, Monmouth County Commissioner Ross Licitra and other officials to show them how important they really are.

It certainly was “A Magical Evening” last night at the Berkeley in Asbury Park to celebrate Mental Health Association of Monmouth County's mission to promote mental wellness and honor four very distinguished individuals, all of whom champion mental health in their personal and professional lives:
David M. Stout, Ph.D. is the President of Brookdale Community College, Wendy Sefcik, Chair of New Jersey Youth Su***de Prevention Advisory Council & MHA Board Member and Joseph & Laurie Silvestri, owner/executives of Arkhitekton financial services in Freehold, are consistent and very generous supporters of MHA.
It was also bittersweet as we recognized the retirement of MHA's President & CEO, Wendy DePedro who has not only been a force within this organization, but has contributed greatly to the residents of Monmouth County through her work. She will be missed.

Congratulations to our own Director, Monmouth County Commissioner Tom Arnone on the groundbreaking of the new Achieve Academy for adults with autism here in Monmouth County. This new facility will be for disabled adults who have "aged out" of the school system.or productive members of their residence or their community.
"The Achieve Academy will be located on the Brookdale Community College Campus in Wall Township and will service adults with ASD in surrounding counties. The program will be a daily continuing education program that will provide a comprehensive program for adults with ASD. The goal of the program is to ensure that these adults are gainfully employed, while still developing and reinforcing their essential life skills. The program will provide ongoing pre-vocational training to prepare these adults for the workplace and provide instruction on the key skills that the adults will need to be successful in the workplace. In addition, our staff will reinforce communication, fine and gross motor and social/communication skills necessary to be successful at work so that they may remain gainfully employed."
This is going to open so many opportunities for one of our most vulnerable populations here in the County and we can't wait to see it come to fruition. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.

This morning I had the privilege of speaking alongside my fellow Commissioners Director Monmouth County Commissioner Tom Arnone and Monmouth County Commissioner Ross Licitra at the ACCSES NJ STAR Conference where we were awarded the Outstanding Customer Service award in recognition of the vital role we play in the support of employment for citizens with disabilities. While we were honored to receive this, rest assured that we know it is organizations like these and others that we support through the County that are the real stars behind the scenes and we commend the hard work that you all do every day to improve the lives of some of our most vulnerable residents. THANK YOU for all you do!

October is . The primary objective of this month-long campaign is to raise awareness about breast cancer, promote early detection, support those affected by the disease, and raise funds for research, prevention, and treatment. It serves as a reminder of the importance of regular breast examinations and mammograms to detect breast cancer at an early, more treatable stage.

What an eye opening time at the Society for the Prevention of Teen Su***de luncheon last week. Society for the Prevention of Teen Su***de is dedicated to increasing awareness, saving lives and reducing the stigma of su***de through specialized mental health training programs and resources that empower students, parents, schools, and communities with the skills needed to help youth build lives of resilience. It's always so inspiring to see those who have lived through such tragedy, take those moments and make them into something teachable that others can benefit from. Thank you for all you do.
