🚨 SCAM ALERT – Caller ID Spoofing 🚨

The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous calls over the past 48 hours reporting a scam involving caller ID spoofing. In these cases, scammers are making it appear as though our non-emergency number is calling you.

The caller falsely claims that you missed jury duty and attempts to pressure you into making an immediate payment, often using Bitcoin or other untraceable methods, to resolve a supposed citation or warrant.

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM.

Please remember:

The Sheriff’s Office will never call you demanding immediate payment, and no legitimate government agency will require payment via Bitcoin, gift cards, or wire transfers. Caller ID cannot be trusted — scammers can make it look like they are calling from a legitimate number.

✅ What you should do:

Hang up immediately if you receive this type of call.

Do not provide any personal or financial information.

If you are unsure, call the agency back using a known, official number to verify.

Please help us spread the word and protect others in our community from falling victim to this scam.
