Hello Community,

Please join us on May 2nd at Fresno City Hall at 8 am for a Morning Prayer and at 9 am for Fresno City Council meeting for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women/Relatives (MMIW/R) Proclamation.

Gratitude to Council member Chavez for his support in honoring MMIW/R and ensuring the City of Fresno formally recognizes this important day. We see this as a positive step towards justice, towards safety, and towards change.

Indigenous Women deserve dignity.

ITS YOKUTS VALLEY FOREVER!

Thank you Fresno County!!
We voted and we won!!

Measure B failed. Voters knew it was pompous and wasteful. Nothing more than a racist attempt to preserve a sexists and sexually violent derogatory place name that disrespected Native people. Voters agreed, there’s no place for hate in Fresno County. Indigenous women deserve dignity. It’s YOKUTS VALLEY!!

🚨Attention Fresno County🚨

Instead of focusing on issues that matter, like homelessness, transportation, and public safety, local politicians want to waste taxpayer money on a measure that ignores state law and disrespects Native Americans. When politicians did not get their way, they sued. Now that they lost, they want to spend your money on a misguided blatant attempt to make their own rules. Tell the politicians to stop wasting tax dollars and focus on the issues that matter.

VOTE NO ON B

The Native Americans pushing to eradicate use of the term in Fresno County say place names for towns and meadows and mountains and lakes should be rooted in respect — not a throwback to oppression. Naming a town with a slur, “that’s not honoring Indigenous women,” said Garcia, who lives in Dunlap, a community that neighbors Yokuts Valley.

“We stand opposed to this attempt to circumvent a legitimately approved law,” Assemblyman James C. Ramos (D-Highland), a Native American and the bill’s author, said in a statement. “Removing the S-word as a place name is about choosing not to use a word that denigrates women and Native Americans.”

The County now wants to ignore state law, which will result in costly and needless litigation that we will all pay for. Vote NO. Honor and respect the opinions of all Native Americans who have lived in the Valley for generations.
