🐾 Training for the Moments That Matter
At NATIONAL Crisis Response Canines, safety is always our #1 priority.
Our certified teams are required to complete ASIST (Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training) or a similar training, that equips our handlers with practical skills and tools to recognize when someone may be experiencing suicidal thoughts and respond appropriately.
And, of course, our canine partners were happy to participate too! 🐾 They joined their handlers throughout the training and even took part in the class role-plays.
When you request a NATIONAL Crisis Response Canine team, you can have confidence that you’re getting professional, compassionate, and safety-focused teams prepared to support people during some of life’s most difficult moments.

When community partners ask us to present about the work we do, we show up to share our mission and the many ways our certified teams support people affected by crisis, trauma, and disaster throughout our community.

Every day, there are individuals carrying burdens that cannot always be seen. Sometimes the greatest gift we can offer is simply our presence—a calm canine, a listening ear, and a compassionate heart. We are grateful for the opportunity to build on our partnerships, share resources, and remind others that no one should have to face life's hardest moments alone.

🐾✈️ A snapshot of how NATIONAL Crisis Response Canines stay response-ready.

From navigating TSA checkpoints to boarding, settling during the flight, and safely disembarking, every step of air travel provides valuable training opportunities for our canine teams.

These real-world experiences help handlers and canines build confidence, practice travel skills, and prepare for deployments that may require air transportation. By exposing our teams to the sights, sounds, and routines of flying, we ensure they are ready to respond wherever they are needed.

Because when disaster strikes, being prepared means being ready to go—by land or by air.

We welcome two very special new hopefuls to the NATIONAL family—Paisley(L) and Gio(R)! These adorable littermates come to us from Alaska and are already surrounded by experienced, loving teams.

Handler Karen and canine Roo have opened their home to Paisley, while Handler Terry, along with canines Sawyer and Tia, have welcomed Gio (short for Giovanni). With such strong support systems, both pups are off to a wonderful start on their journey.

We’re excited to watch Paisley and Gio grow, learn, and take their first steps toward becoming future crisis response canines.⁩
