Trustees couldn’t figure out how to pay EMS employees more to retain or hire more people. They did figure out how to get rid of all employees and farm out the EMS service. What a joke these three are.

Isn’t it odd that when the community complains about EMS coverage it falls on deaf ears. However, when a Trustee’s family member needs an ambulance it is a problem if they have no coverage. Cast the blame where it belongs, with the Trustees. Too bad it’s the same Trustee that caused all the problems and didn’t seem to care when people waited for 45 minutes to an hour for the ambulance to arrive.

Maybe now they will get their collective head out of the sand and resolve all the issues. Pay EMTs what they are worth. Active recruit instead of posting a message that helps wanted on the sign in front of the office.

The community needs to understand that there is a lack of leadership along with the lack of coverage. Let’s all show up at the May meeting and once again voice our concerns.

I’d like to make sure that the community is aware of the upcoming meeting this Wednesday evening at 7PM.

You can see the nonsense the trustees come up with. This meeting they will tell you they don’t approve of the member elected Fire Chief and appoint (which is not the process) a trustee hand picked person. This is all in response to the existing Fire Chief getting upset because a trustee was removing emergency fire radios from emergency vehicles to give to the road crew prior to the bad weather before Christmas.

The trustees have continually acted individually and always say it was discussed among the others. These 3 will tell you whatever you want to hear even if it’s not exactly accurate. They continue to ignore updating emergency vehicles.

The Organizational meeting held on New Year’s Day was a joke. It was evident that they had not taken time to review or discuss pay raises for the Ambulance Service among themselves prior to to the public meeting. Once again failing to have competitive wages for the employees. I assume they have no desire to fulfill the obligation to our community with proper emergency services. At best we have proper coverage three days a week.

Don’t take my word for it, come see for yourself!

Residents of Nile Township take note.

The trustees did hire new employees for our ambulance service in October/November but we still have no coverage as the part time employees barely show up and there are 3 full time employees covering maybe 3 days a week. This is an embarrassment and the trustees don’t seem to care.

Now add to that they are messing with the volunteer firefighters. The fire department elects the fire chief by member votes. Apparently the trustees don’t like the chief (who has been chief the past 2 years). The trustees have threatened to not approve his position and I have heard that 5 of the 8 volunteers plan to resign if this is true. This will leave the fire department woefully understaffed.

The chief has requested upgrades to equipment and asked for funding to make repairs to the existing equipment, which is ignored. Once again levies have passed to do these projects but the trustees don’t seem to want to protect our residents.

Trustee meeting October 12th at 7 PM.
Noticed it wasn’t posted on the Township’s page but it is on the sign at the township building. Bring your concerns! We can see if any progress for our EMS coverage has been resolved.

If you live within Nile Township you need to be aware of this.

On Election Day November 2018, a tax levy was passed in Nile Township, Scioto County, Ohio adding $0.60 per every $100 valuation of residents property. This levy is to provide emergency medical services to our township. I had noticed that there were no personal vehicles at the ambulance station on Saturday and Sunday over a couple weekends. I decided to attend a trustee meeting and ask a couple questions. This only aggravated one of the trustees because how dare I question his authority.

It turns out after asking this question during the August trustee meeting that we do not have ambulance coverage for our residents on weekends and limited coverage during the week. I was told that there had been a few resignations and they were planning to run a wanted ad to get applicants. I then asked what the position paid and was told $10.50/hr. Apparently the paid employees are leaving to seek a higher rate of pay at other locations.

I attended the September trustee meeting only to find out that there are now only 4 employees with the ambulance service and still no weekend coverage. This means that the squad is dispatched a couple times and if no response Portsmouth Ambulance is dispatched out of Portsmouth. We are all aware of the delay in response that can cause.

I asked if the wage increase had been address and was told no. I added to the meeting record that if I own a $100,000 house, I would pay $600 per year for this levy that was passed. I’m probably not getting my money’s worth and neither are you.

Are you willing to wait 45 minutes if a loved one falls, is having a heart attack, in a car crash or drowning? Your 3 trustees are willing to take that chance with our health and we need to make them correct this issue.

If you have any doubts about this post it is all public record and available at the township office or call the trustees. You can receive a written or recorded copy upon request. This is what they were elected to handle and should be accountable.
