On June 14, 1775, the following entry was written into the journal of the Second Continental Congress:
“Resolved, that six companies of expert rifleman, be immediately raised in Pennsylvania, two in Maryland, and two in Virginia… [and] as soon as completed, shall march and join the army near Boston, to be there employed as light infantry, under the command of the chief officer in that army."

This resolution gave birth to the Continental Army, changing the course of the war for American independence and the history of the world forever. 🦅

Exactly two years later, Congress would pass another resolution, this time adopting a flag to represent the new nation. The “Stars and Stripes” as it was commonly called, not only symbolized the union of the 13 Colonies and their cause, but it also became the standard the “Continentals” would bear in every battle defending American liberty. 🇺🇸

Even today, every American soldier carries the colors as a patch on the right shoulder of their combat uniform. It appears as if the flag were flying in breeze while the soldier, and the Army, goes rolling along.

Changing how we perceive ourselves changes the way we perceive others. As our self-image improves, so do our relationships, job performance, and everything else we do.

How you show up for yourself is critical! Continue to build your identity and your brand. Be the person in the room someone wants to meet! John Keating, Frisco City Council, Place 1, an Army veteran, shares his insights on the subtle skill of elicitation.

Whether at an embassy party or speaking with a local in a foreign country, he emphasizes the importance of working the room, identifying key individuals, and making a strong first impression without being too direct.

As a citizen, a veteran, and a Frisco City Councilman I extend my profound gratitude to Frisco Post No. 8273, Veterans of Foreign Wars, US Commander Shenna Lawless for her vision as we welcome The Wall that Heals to Frisco.

This replica of the “Vietnam Veterans Memorial” holds within its solemn walls the names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation, and it stands as a powerful testament to their courage, valor, and sacrifice.

For over two decades “The Wall That Heals” has traveled across our country, visiting nearly 700 communities, and touching the lives of millions. It has become a beacon of remembrance and healing, providing solace and comfort to veterans and their families, and allowing communities to come together to honor and pay tribute to those who served.

As a veteran of the US Army, I understand the profound significance of this exhibit and the healing power it embodies. For Vietnam Veterans who may find it difficult to journey to the memorial in Washington DC, “The Wall That Heals” offers a tangible connection to their comrades, their memories, and their sacrifices, right here in their own community.

I extend my deepest gratitude to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund for entrusting us with the honor of hosting this extraordinary event. May its presence in our city serve as a reminder of the debt of gratitude we owe to all who have served and sacrificed in defense of our freedom.

As we stand before “The Wall That Heals,” let us not only remember the fallen, but let us also renew our commitment to supporting our veterans and their families who call Frisco home, where their service and their sacrifices are valued and honored, now, and always.

To all our veterans, thank you for your service; and to our Vietnam Veterans, welcome home! 🇺🇸

Thank you for your continued support, and let’s keep Frisco the #1 city in America!

John Keating is the clear and trusted choice for Frisco City Council. With years of experience and a positive vision for the future, John is the leader we need to keep Frisco the #1 city in America. Let’s keep him working for us by re-electing him in May 2024 to Frisco City Council.

04/21/2024

Before I served you on Frisco City Council, I served you in the US Army as a Senior Counterintelligence Agent and I am a combat veteran of Operations Desert Shield/Storm. One of my priorities as a council member was ensuring we honored our veterans. Not only did I help secure the “Purple Heart City” designation, I was also part of the team to refresh our Frisco Veterans Memorial in 2021. There are two other veteran projects featured in this video. I like to think every day is Veterans Day, and I'm committed to our Frisco Veterans Advisory Committee mission of building a Veteran-Friendly and Veteran-Ready community! 🇺🇸 🦅 🏆
