We are thrilled to announce that Blake Hicks has been chosen as Play Frisco's Employee of the Month! His outstanding act of kindness and exceptional service has truly made a significant impact.

He went above and beyond to assist a community member in need. His quick thinking, sense of urgency, and genuine care in helping them retrieve their expensive, stranded remote-controlled boat from the pond truly showcase his embodiment of our mission and vision. His integrity, fiscal responsibility, and dedication to providing top-notch service do not go unnoticed.

โญ๏ธ Bridges Festival Artist Feature โญ

Say ๐Ÿ‘‹ to Swapnil Ukey!

Swapnil started learning Tabla at the age of 9 in the Punjab Gharana while in India and has been a student of that instrument to this day.

After moving to the US, a number of years later he decided to pursue his interest again and is now a student of Shantanu Bhattacharya at the Ustad Tari Tabla School of Music in Dallas.

He regularly performs around the DFW area and has accompanied many other musical artists. He enjoys collaborating with different art forms like western classical, kathak, sitar, folks, fusion, etc.

Some of the notable works of Swapnil include collaborating with the Hebron Choir to perform at the UIL completion to win title of Reserve Grand Champion, collaboration with artists of various genres to perform for Human Rights Initiative of North Texas, collaborating with Suskera Band to perform at Momo Festival as well as performing at the EarthX Expo event for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

He is also currently working with a local artist to record an album for nursery rhymes.

Swapnil is an Architect by profession and has passion for coaching by being a fitness and nutrition coach.

Swapnil will be performing & collaborating with 3 other artists in our 2023 Bridges Collaboration Festival- Cohort A- on Friday, September 8th at 6:30pm CST

City of Frisco TX - City Hall is seeking original, 2-dimensional artwork to be displayed on pole banners in the Rail District in downtown Frisco between 3rd and 5th Streets. Artists will have the opportunity to display art to a large audience and the public will benefit from a walkable art experience that beautifies the neighborhood.

Up to 20 artworks will be selected. The deadline for accepting submissions is August 17.

Our Learn to Swim program at the Frisco Athletic Center is one of our most popular recreation programs!โœจ Historically, registration has opened early in the morning, making it feel like you're trying to buy tickets to a Taylor Swift concert instead of local swim lessons. Well, we have good news:

Starting this month, the time registration opens for swimming lessons is changing from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

You can sign up for the next session of classes starting August 21 at 10:00 a.m. We hope that makes your mornings a little better (at least on registration day)!๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ

As part of our successful ongoing partnership with the City of Frisco Public Art Program, we're thrilled to offer one VAGF member the opportunity to display their artwork in the Mayor's office at City Hall! Play Frisco - Parks & Recreation

Accepted categories are: painting, drawing and photography. A new artist will be selected on a quarterly basis. Current artist, photographer, David McKinney

Please note: in order to qualify, artists must be current in their VAGF membership.

Artists who submitted previously to this program and were not accepted will be able to apply for free by using a special code - email [email protected] to request the code.

VAGF retains 20% commission from all sales generated through the show.

Artists are encouraged to submit work appropriate for a public area. Art will be on display from October through December 2023 (exact dates to be determined by City Staff).

Submission deadline is September 13, 2023. The installation of the artwork will be scheduled by City staff in collaboration with the selected artist. Please see link in IG bio or via: https://www.smarterentry.com/CallsForEntry/VAGF/

Finalists are selected by a VAGF panel of jurors. Final acceptance is subject to the approval by the City officials.

๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒณ Heartfelt THANKS to our incredible volunteer organizations! Their partnerships with Play Frisco have allowed our team to maintain more garden areas throughout Frisco. The Frisco Garden Club works wonders at five locations, including the Smith-Muse House and Shawnee Trail Demonstration Garden.

Kudos to the Young Menโ€™s Service League for supporting the Demonstration Garden, and to M.T.O Shahmaghsoudi for tending to the beautiful pollinator garden at the Discovery Center. ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿฆ‹ The DNIC Lionโ€™s Club plays a vital role in maintaining the Harvest Community Garden at Frisco Commons.
