To my sweet, wonderful, creative, beautiful, hilarious, kids bop groovin’, pompom-loving Sew Fun Family,

A few months ago we quietly closed the studio doors permanently. While I struggled with the decision, I know it’s the right move for my family.
I’ve LOVED sewing with all my girls and take so much pride in the work we did here. You girls are absolutely amazing. I will be forever thankful for the time I got to spend creating with these lil creative geniuses. Thank you for letting me spend the last 5 years surrounded by unicorns, sparkles, giggles, and joy!
My mentor and fellow sewing business owner Megan Avery, owner of M Avery Designs Sewing Studio will be offering amazing online classes. She is the beautiful soul that trained me when I started Sew Fun. She’s based in New Jersey but the beautiful thing about 2020 and virtual learning is that she can share her gift with kids all over the country
Sending all my love to everyone this holiday season, things may look a little different this year for many families and my hope is that your season is filled with warmth and love.

Welp, we’ve had to cancel our in-person summer camps due to Covid Concerns. 2020 is such a belly flop of a year!
BUT I was all prepped and we’ll now be offering Take & Make kits for kiddos.
Here’s the important info:
-you’ll need a sewing machine at home
-kits include all needed fabrics/supplies/tutorials
-you’ll need basic sewing & safety skills. These are designed for kiddos to sew but they may need a bit of help from an adult depending on their experience level
-all kits include 3-4 projects + our sewing workbook (which is adorable and FULL of goodies!)
-kits have themes similar to our camps and are priced depending on how many projects are included (not all projects translated well to Take & Make format so themes vary a bit on number of projects)
-you’ll sign up on the website and these will be shipped to you so make sure your address is correct (and if you want it sent as a gift please email me that info.) There are a limited number of kits since they’re precut
-you’re welcome to order one now but they don’t ship until July 6th

We will be hosting in-person sewing camps this summer starting July 6th. Camps will have a max of 6 kids, each camper will have their own work station and sewing tools.

**needed** 1/4” or 3mm elastic! This is about as hard to find as TP currently! If you have some, please drop in the drop off bin. We had 100 kits picked up today!! We have tons more fabric but have to search a bit for the elastic.

Mask kits are available for pick up! In my next post I am posting the link to the video tutorial for making the masks, don’t bother with the written instructions-they’re confusing. There are two containers outside the studio, one for pick up & one for drop off when you’re done. Please just pop them back into the bags when you drop off. My goal is to keep the pick up bin full so you can keep making masks. I am PMing everyone the location. Send questions my way! *if you have any 3mm or 1/4 inch elastic to donate we’d really appreciate it! Just pop it in the drop off bin ❤️

**additional info, fabrics will be washed/sterilized at a laundry facility. (I don’t have all these details but assure you no one is touching these babies without going through the proper process.) They’ll be donated and used as needed. These masks obviously will be used in the appropriate settings, we never said your neighborhood ER doc would be sporting a handmade mask made out of unicorn fabric...so chill! They’re intended to fill a need so N95 masks can be conserved for those on the front line. I didn’t come up with this notion of making masks and it’s happening nation wide ✌🏻

I’m heartbroken to see these beautiful ladies on the sidelines. The Sew Fun family is so special to me and the uncertainty for the coming weeks & beyond is just really hard.
BUT I’m so happy to see people coming together and making the tough calls needed to keep everyone safe ❤️
I spent Sunday with my kiddos converting the studio into a pretty fun home school space (raise your hand if you didn’t see that coming 🙋🏽‍♀️)
I know it’s a really tricky time, love on your families, love on your neighbors, and please send some good vibes into the world for your favorite small businesses.
We’ve definitely got the wheels turning on some remote learning opportunities

🤚🏻5 Skills Your Mini Maker Will Master Before Leaving Sew Fun Studios!

Sewing is so beneficial to growing minds! Here are a few skills will put to practice in each and every workshop we offer!

1. Practical Math Application! Makers use fractions, measuring, and geometry each and every time they make a project! And they say you never use math in the real world...

2. Problem Solving 🕵🏻‍♂️ Stuff happens, kids get a chance to course correct, modify, and rethink their projects when problems arise....and if all else fails...seam ripper to the rescue!

3. Fine Motor Skills! Cutting fabric is definitely a unique skill, couple that with working with pins/needles/thread...these kids are getting quite the Fine Motor Workout 💪🏼

4. Design 😎 Makers design each project to fit their taste and style. Understanding how to play with color and pattern is a great skill to have!

5. Sewing IS a life skill! Mending clothes, sewing a button, and altering clothing fit are all great ways to put sewing to practice in the real world. Even better, what about an Etsy shop selling handmade scrunchies! Gift making, sewing for fun, and sewing for charity, kids leave your studio with skills to make it all happen

I haven’t been on to introduce myself to new followers in a bit. Hi! I’m Kaitlyn, owner of Sew Fun Studios Frisco!

I have a pretty specific mission around the studio. Simply put, I want to teach kids to sew! (Duh!)

But the experience they have in the studio is so so important to me. Here are the top 3 things that make the Sew Fun experience stand out.

1. I want kids to have a FUN (& frustration-free) experience!
Fun comes pretty easily around here, frustration-free teaching is where we’ve really refined our craft as sewing teachers. I’ve spent the last 5 years teaching hundreds of kiddos to sew and I’ve learned a lot along the way. (*If you can remember 9th grade Home Ec class with 35 busted sewing machines, a pattern from 1957, a dusty manual plopped on your desk, and your grade on the line, then you know frustration-free sewing is a pretty big deal.)

2. I want them to create beautiful, modern things (this isn’t your grandmama’s sewing)
Unicorns, flamingos, llamas, ice cream cone pillows, fun prints, pretty trims, and alllllll the brightly colored fabrics!! It’s important to me to offer projects that kids LOVE. Cuteness level is a real thing around here and we try to keep things as colorful and sparkly as possible. We may make some PJ shorts but you better believe we’ll use Caticorn fabric (and if you don’t know, it’s a Cat with a unicorn horn...bc why not?) 🐱+🦄

3. I want sewing to bring them together & help them make friends!
Sewing isn’t competitive, sewing isn’t intense- we provide a happy, fun place for kids to bond over things like flamingo pillows, funny fabrics, all while sewing & humming along to Kid’s Bop 40. What could be better than that?! Sometimes Sewing Club becomes a kid’s “thing”. They may not be sporty or into coding but they can come to the studio, be with their people, and make some super cute stuff. And that’s pretty dang cool

So that’s a bit about me and why I love getting to do this job everyday! Thanks for following along as we share all about our sewing adventures!

Pressed foot, feed dogs, bobbin winder, seam ripper, rotary cutter, bias cut, tension, fly wheel...oh my!! 🙋🏽‍♀️ raise your hand if you have no idea what I’m talking about!
These are a few of the terms kids become comfortable with in our classes. We’re ALL about the pretty fabrics & projects...but kids also are learning so so much when they come to the studio. (Bonus: they are having too much fun to realize all they’re learning!)
