TEA = Taxed. Enough. Already.
Many Frostproof residents received a notice from the City, alerting us to a Fire Services Special Assessment of $410.00. That is for me personally, a staggering 200% increase over what was paid last year.
At a time when families are already struggling with inflation, rising insurance premiums, and some of the highest property tax burdens many homeowners have ever experienced, the City is now asking residents to pay more than three times what they paid last year for this assessment.
Frostproof is home to a large senior population. Many of our beloved neighbors are retirees, or others living on fixed incomes. A proposal to bleed another $410 from those who are already struggling to eat on a daily basic deserves a clear public explanation before asking homeowners to absorb yet another recurring expense.
As a Frostproof homeowner, I have submitted a public records request seeking all documents related to this proposed assessment, including the methodology used to calculate it, supporting budget documents, consultant reports, and communications regarding the increase (the results of which will be shared on this page.).
I want to stress this very important point: **This isn’t about opposing our firefighters. They provide an essential service and deserve the resources they need.**
This is about ensuring that taxpayer dollars are spent in a way that reduces the burden on those that dedicate their lives to providing for their families. Year over year, we are taxed more, and more, and more.
This cycle has to stop.
