Protecting those who protect our community.

These new ballistic shields are now in the hands of Galveston Police patrol officers, thanks to the generous support of donors and members of the Galveston Community Police Foundation.

Equipment like this provides officers with an added layer of protection when they are called into dangerous situations—and gives them the tools they need to do their jobs as safely as possible.

To everyone who has donated, joined the Foundation, or supported our mission: THANK YOU for investing in the men and women who protect Galveston every day.

This is what community policing looks like.

At the city's Summer Youth Program's Back to School Bash, officers weren’t just handing out backpacks — they were building relationships with the kids and families they serve every day.

Members of the GPD Dive Team gave kids the chance to get an up-close look at scuba gear, snorkels and masks, while officers provided backpacks filled with school and hygiene supplies to help local students start the school year ready to go. And of course, K9 Norman and Sgt. Dorarty were there to make the day even more special.

This is just one example of the many ways Galveston Police Department gives back to the community it serves. These officers show up not only when they're needed in an emergency, but at community events, in schools, with families and alongside the people who call Galveston home.

And that's why the Galveston Community Police Foundation exists.

Our job is to give back to the men and women of GPD — providing the resources, equipment, training and support they need to do their jobs effectively and continue building the strong relationships that make a community safer.

GPD gives so much to Galveston. We’re proud to give back to GPD. Join us in being proud. galvestoncpf.org

Police officers are often called on to help others through some of life's most difficult moments. They witness tragedy, respond to crises, and carry responsibilities that most people will never fully understand.

While officers are trained to remain calm under pressure, they are still human.
Supporting the mental health and wellness of those who serve our community is not a luxury—it's a necessity. Healthy officers are better equipped to serve, lead, make sound decisions, and maintain strong relationships both on and off duty.

The Galveston Community Police Foundation is proud to support initiatives that promote officer wellness, resilience, peer support, training, and access to resources that help law enforcement professionals navigate the unique challenges of their profession.

When we invest in the well-being of our officers, we invest in the safety and strength of our entire community. Because taking care of those who protect us matters. You can help. Become a Galveston Community Police Foundation member. Every cent of your donation is used to help the GPD. galvestoncpf.org

A promotion is more than a new title — it’s a recognition of dedication, leadership, and a continued commitment to serving the community.

At the Galveston Community Police Foundation, we believe in supporting the men and women who dedicate their careers to protecting and serving Galveston. Supporting our officers means investing in the people behind the badge — their training, their resources, their professional growth, and their ability to continue serving our community.

Congratulations, Sergeant Sloan. We’re proud to stand behind you and all of Galveston’s officers who choose a life of service. galvestoncpf.org

Did You Know?

The Galveston Police Department has been protecting the Island for generations—and there's a lot more to GPD than answering calls for service. From being the oldest police department in Texas to engaging with the community through youth programs and mounted patrol, GPD is committed to keeping Galveston safe while building lasting relationships with those they serve.

The Galveston Community Police Foundation is proud to support the officers, equipment, training, and programs that help GPD continue that mission. galvestoncpf.org

Please join us in welcoming Gerald Berazny to his new role as Board Treasurer for the Galveston Community Police Foundation!

Gerald Bereznay (shown here with his lovely wife Nancy) was born and raised in Lorain, Ohio and attended the University of Dayton from where in 1977 he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. After several years with Arthur Andersen, Mr. Bereznay worked for Towner Petroleum as its Tax Manager and then Tax Director, moving to Texas upon the Company’s relocation to Houston. Due to various company mergers and acquisitions Mr. Bereznay saw employment as a Tax Manager/Director with Sonat Exploration, El Paso, Petrohawk Energy and Halcon Resources ultimately retiring from Battalion Oil Corporation. During this portion of his career, he was responsible for tax compliance, financial reporting of income taxes, tax audits and examinations by both Federal and State tax authorities, tax planning and other duties. Over the course of his professional career, he was a member of tax committees for several oil and gas organizations.

With Mr. Bereznay now retired, in his free time he assists taxpayers in setting up tax exempt entities and provides oil and gas tax consulting services, not letting that get in the way of spending time with his wife and daughter. Mr. Bereznay now holds leadership positions on the Board of Directors of the Strand Lofts Condominium Association and Krewe Babalu.
