Garberville Redway Public Restroom Working Group

Garberville Redway Public Restroom Working Group GRPRWG members are committed to work cooperatively to bring public restrooms, open for use by all, to our community.

The Garberville Redway Public Restroom Working Group (GRPRWG) formed as an Unincorporated Nonprofit Association early in 2012 to help remedy the lack of public restrooms in Garberville and in the adjacent community of Redway. Garberville and Redway are small unincorporated towns, nestled in the redwoods in rural Humboldt County, California. GRPRWG members are committed to working cooperatively wit

h other Southern Humboldt organizations, businesses, residents and visitors to bring public restrooms, open for use by all, to our community. Since forming, we’ve mapped current unlocked public restrooms, done surveys, made presentations to local groups, sponsored trash clean-ups, financially supported a trash dumpster and porta-potty in Redway, and hosted two series of facilitated Town Round Tables. Our group is now in the process of working with the Garberville Town Square Board to implement a public restroom at that site. We are now actively contacting business owners, local groups and individuals to ask for support for this project. WISH is our umbrella organization, and this allows us to seek tax-exempt donations and grant funding.

After our Community Public Restroom on the Garberville Town Square went through the winter with the stucco prep work completed but no stucco, we found "Master Plasterer", Gregorio, who using the traditional three-coat application (scratch coat, brown coat and finish coat), beautifully finished the building. The scratch coat is grooved to help secure the second (called the brown coat) which gives the final texture, and the third coat (finish coat) adds the color.

Thank you Gregorio and all of the other construction workers, donors, organizations, business owners and supporters for helping to bring this wonderful addition to our beautiful community.

We are working on the plan for our sustainable maintenance endowment fund....more news to come.

The last stages of construction of the Restroom at the Garberville Town Square are now taking place as the storage shed portion of the restroom is being prepped for the application of its stucco finish -- thanks to great volunteer work from Isaac Fleming and his crew. Isaac (shown in the photo below) is the owner of Fleming Plastering Co. out of Eureka, Calif.

-To meet your commercial or residential stucco and plastering needs, you can contact Isaac at: (707) 599-6261: https://www.flemingplastering.com/

Soon we will be launching our Sustainable Maintenance Fund-raising Campaign to secure long-term funding ("The Poop-petuity Fund") for maintenance of the Garberville Public Restroom.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped and supported us in getting to this point! And thanks to Suzelle for the great photo of Isaac.
