The drains/sewer lines along the streets cannot keep up with the rainfall and debris. DOH has been contacted. There are grates that have been uplifted and broken tree limbs keeping them pried open. Please use caution and observe traffic cones.

Use extreme caution around Town! Sutton Dam is letting water out. Sewer Drains and/or standing water can be dangerous. PSD urges extra vigilance near Dairy Queen and properties nearby. We are monitoring but please call (304-364-5111) if you notice backed up water.

TODAY 6:00 TUESDAY AUGUST 18th
The Town of Gassaway is Ready for New Talent with their New Ideas!
TOWN CELEBRATIONS EVENTS PARADES VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The first “de-briefing” / public input meeting will be at the Community Building on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. and is just the beginning.

Please plan on attending and if you are not able please email your contact information to the 2026 Gassaway Days Committee’s recording secretary, Alisha Belt. ([email protected]) or leave a message at 304-364-5111 with your contact information. Hopefully, future meetings will be virtual and recorded to better meet the needs of those committed to supporting these activities.

The 2026 Gassaway Days financial information is now ready for review and the opportunity to reflect, applaud, criticize, improve, and set up a structure for interested individuals, groups, or organizations to take on the responsibility for future Gassaway Days, venue support for Homecoming, Halloween, Veterans’ Day, if needed, and with a new idea that some Folks are interested in starting new a Christmas Event in addition to a parade. Lots of ideas that require planning, effort, and resources.

As importantly, once the new structure is set up there will be a candid assessment of the 2025 Gassaway Days celebration so that informed decisions can be made for future events and to avoid past missteps.

The Mayor has collected any number of documents and information to share so that there is direction in the planning and organizing.

It’s no secret that Braxton County’s decline in population, the advancing median age of its residents, regulatory concerns, and increasing expenses will continue to make having these events a challenge.

New talent with new ideas will also be considerate of the events and traditions of the other Braxton County Towns (Burnsville, Flatwoods, and Sutton) since we no longer should be competing instead of cooperating.

But if there is still genuine interest to have these events with the infusion of new talent from every walk of life with new ideas, priorities will be decided based on the here and now.
