Hello Southwest Middle School families!
This is Dr. Davria with this week’s information and updates.
Our SWMS Calendar Fundraiser is underway, and we want to remind our Roadrunners to keep selling! Here’s how it works: students should have received a Southwest calendar. Students can sell individual days for the dollar amount of that day. For example, someone can purchase Day 4 for $4 or Day 21 for $21.
Students who raise $15 will be invited to a pizza party. Students who raise $200 will receive a Southwest Middle School T-shirt in addition to the pizza party. And students who sell an entire calendar for $465 will earn a spot on our bowling outing on October 15!
The fundraiser runs through September 25, and students can begin bringing in the money they have raised this week. A reminder that all money collected through the calendar fundraiser should be turned in to the school. All proceeds go directly back to support our Southwest students and staff. We want our Roadrunners to be proud of their fundraising efforts and make sure those funds make their way back to the school for everyone to benefit!
This week is also an important week academically. All students will take their ELA interim assessment on Tuesday and their math interim assessment on Friday. Please encourage your student to get a good night’s sleep, arrive at school on time, and come prepared to give their best effort. These assessments help us understand what our students know and what they are ready to learn next.
We also have several athletic events this week. Girls softball travels to Mount Holly for an away game Monday and plays at home Thursday. Our boys football team travels to Holbrook for an away game Wednesday, and our golf team has a match Monday. Come out and support our Roadrunners!
This week, we will continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by exploring the Music of Hispanic Heritage! Music is an important part of culture and provides a wonderful way for students to learn about the traditions, history, languages, and diverse communities that make up the Hispanic and Latino experience.
Next week is a BIG week at Southwest because it is Homecoming Week, September 28 through October 2! We will also be celebrating with a Spirit Week, so be on the lookout for information about our daily spirit days.
Monday, Sept 28, is our Beginning-of-the-Year Block Party, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. We hope all of our families and community members will join us for an evening of fun!
Wednesday, Sept 30 is our Homecoming Football Game, and Friday, Oct 2, will be our Homecoming Dance for students after school. The cost of the dance is $10, and tickets will be sold during homeroom Friday morning. We are looking forward to a fun Homecoming week with our Roadrunners!
Finally, School Picture Day is October 2! Families have several options for purchasing pictures. You can send payment in the photo envelope that was sent home with your student at the beginning of the year, pay online, or purchase a picture packet after Picture Day.
