I know a lot of you have heard about 7 Brew potentially coming to Gautier and the council tabling the business item.

The proposed lease is for property in the Town Commons area, which is considered prime property. The lease agreement is for $36,000 per year, with an increase every five years.

In my opinion, we have to start somewhere. While the lease amount may be a little lower than where we ultimately want to be with prime property, getting development started can help create momentum and encourage additional investment.

A 7 Brew could potentially generate approximately $40,000 a year in direct sales-tax revenue to the City, or about $210,000 over five years, based on estimated sales.

That’s in addition to the lease revenue, new jobs, payroll, property and business taxes, utility revenue, and the potential to attract additional businesses to Town Commons.

Economic development takes that first step. I believe 7 Brew could help us take it.

Gautier Water Facts!

I’ve lived in Gautier for almost 50 years, and I have been drinking, bathing, cooking, and showering in our tinted Gautier water my entire life. I raised my children using this water as well. I am still here, healthy, and I have never personally experienced any health issues from our water, such as skin problems, hair loss, or other concerns.

I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and can make their own choices about how much they want to use the water. However, I want to share some facts and clarify some misinformation that I’ve seen.

Our water is tested regularly by a third-party company to ensure it meets required safety standards. The discoloration, caused by Tannins from the Gulf, we see in the water is not the reason the City is installing the nanofiltration system because the water is considered dangerous. The purpose of the system is to address the discoloration and improve the overall appearance and quality of the water.

The City is currently installing a 3-million-gallon nanofiltration system. Based on the expectations and information provided to the City regarding this type of filtration system before it was purchased, the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 or early 2027. Once operational, we expect to see a significant improvement in the clarity of our water.

After the current system is completed, the City also plans to install a 1-million-gallon nanofiltration system in the Martin Bluff area.

I believe our citizens deserve clean, clear, safe water, and I also believe they deserve accurate information about their water system. As a Councilwoman, I will continue to support efforts to improve our water while making sure our citizens understand the difference between water that is discolored and water that is unsafe.

You are absolutely entitled to make your own choices about the water in your home. I simply wanted to share what I know and provide some facts from the City’s perspective.

Happy Friday, Gautier! 💙

I’ve had several new people join my Facebook group recently, so I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to those who may not know me or know much about my character.

First, I’m not a typical politician just because I’m an elected official. I’m basically a lifelong resident of Gautier, and I have always loved calling this city home.

When my children were born, I made a conscious decision to be a role model for them by becoming more community- and civic-minded. I volunteered with Ingalls events, and throughout my daughters’ education, I volunteered as much as possible with their schools, band programs, and extracurricular activities. I wanted to show my girls by example that you should give back to your community whenever you can.

I’ve also tried to teach them something I believe is very important: You have to be a friend to have friends. ❤️

I’m not telling you these things because I want recognition or a pat on the back. I’m telling you because I want you to know the person behind the title. I take my responsibility as your Ward 3 Councilwoman very seriously, but that doesn’t mean I’m a perfect human being. We all fall short of the glory of God.

One thing I also try very hard to be is positive. I truly believe that choosing positivity can be mentally healing. If you struggle with anxiety or depression, I encourage you to find ways to get involved, volunteer, help someone who needs you, and surround yourself with positive influences. Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves is give of ourselves to someone who could never repay us.

Now, when I make a post and you don’t agree with me, that’s okay! We don’t all have to agree. Healthy disagreement is part of living in a community.

But what I hope we can avoid is constantly being negative about Gautier. If you want change, help encourage it. If you see a problem, help find a solution. If you have an idea, bring it forward.

We are all trying to do our best, and I truly believe Gautier has so much potential. I want to see our city thrive, and I’m going to continue doing my part to help make that happen.

I’m not perfect. I don’t have all the answers. But I care deeply about this community, and I’m going to keep showing up, listening, learning, working, and doing the best I can for Ward 3 and for Gautier.

If you have an issue in your neighborhood, please start by contacting the City staff who handle the day-to-day operations of our city, in accordance with our City Manager form of government.

If you contact the appropriate department and don’t get the results you need, please reach out to your Council Member or the Mayor, and we will do our best to assist you.

I personally ride through Ward 3 every day after I get off my day job. I drive a bright blue car, so you can’t miss me! 😂 I’m always looking for potholes, trash, drainage issues and other things that need attention, and I report them to the City Manager and his staff myself.

Our City employees work very hard for Gautier, and many times they are doing the work of multiple people. There are also situations where an issue may be outside the City’s control, but we still want to help you understand the situation and find the most effective solution possible.

Please be kind and courteous when speaking with City staff. You can be frustrated about an issue without taking that frustration out on the people who are working to solve it.

🏡 Understanding Residential Zoning in Gautier

Have you ever wondered what R-1, R-1A, R-2, R-3, or PUD means when you hear about property development in Gautier? Here’s a simple explanation based on the City’s zoning ordinance:

🔹 R-E — Residential Estate
Very low-density residential development. These areas are generally intended for large lots and single-family homes, including areas with environmentally sensitive characteristics.

🔹 R-1 — Low-Density Single-Family Residential
This is primarily intended for single-family detached homes in a quiet residential setting. The intent is to protect these neighborhoods from commercial uses and heavy traffic.

🔹 R-1A — Medium-Density Residential
Allows low- to medium-density residential development. Single-family and two-family homes are permitted, making this district somewhat more flexible than R-1.

🔹 R-2 — High-Density Multi-Family Residential
This district is designed for higher-density residential development, including apartments, condominiums, retirement communities and assisted-living facilities. New developments also require permanent open space and/or recreational facilities.

🔹 R-3 — Mobile/Manufactured Home Residential
This district is intended to provide affordable housing, including manufactured and mobile homes, modular homes, manufactured-home subdivisions and mobile-home parks. These uses must be located in areas specifically zoned for R-3.

🔹 PUD — Planned Unit Development
A PUD is different from simply saying “high-density residential.” A Planned Unit Development is intended to give developers more flexibility in designing a property while addressing things such as open space, buffers, traffic, environmental features, compatible development and the surrounding neighborhood.

Importantly, PUD does NOT automatically mean a developer can build whatever they want. The ordinance states that the uses permitted in a PUD are based on the underlying Comprehensive Plan Future Land Use designation and the approved development plan.

🏠 Why does zoning matter?

Zoning helps determine what type of development can occur, where it can occur, and what standards must be followed. It also helps protect existing neighborhoods while allowing Gautier to grow responsibly.

And remember: zoning and land-use decisions are about the property—not the person who owns it. The same rules should apply to everyone.

If you have questions about a particular property in Gautier, the best place to start is by finding out what that property is currently zoned and what uses are permitted in that zoning district.

Knowledge of our zoning ordinance helps all of us better understand development discussions in our community.
