Today I met with the Black Homeownership Collaborative, a group of committed nonprofit, civil rights, industry, housing counseling, and research organizations working on solutions to the racial homeownership gap.

HUD is committed to making equitable opportunities for homeownership a reality for more Black Americans and to ending unfair housing practices that exclude people from opportunity.

We are so excited to introduce Ms. Melody Taylor!!!!!

Melody Taylor serves as the Regional Director for the Mid Atlantic Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She serves the region in implementing programs and policies in all matters relating to fair housing, economic opportunity, civil rights, and nondiscrimination in the implementation of HUD programs.

Melody’s training, contributions and commitment to fair housing span a period of 20 years. Melody has an expansive civil rights career working with non-profit, human rights state and federal agencies including her work in program and policy development, and strategic planning for private and government entities.

Melody continues to lead the region in making significant contributions to dismantling barriers to equal access to opportunity. Notably the region has negotiated agreements with States, localities and private industry to increase the supply of affordable housing in neighborhoods of opportunity, supported mobility counseling initiatives, significant policy changes to ensure that persons with disabilities have fair and equal access.

We are proud to announce that Ms. Melody Taylor is one of our panalist for our Fair Housing Virtual Town Hall tonight from 6-8pm!!

Today would like to introduce to you the wonderful Maria Bynum!

Maria Bynum was named the Field Office Director in Wilmington, Delaware in June, 2012. As field office director, Bynum coordinates outreach activities and program delivery to HUD customers and communities throughout the First State. She also serves as a liaison to mayors, city managers, elected representatives, state and local officials, and Congressional delegations in Delaware.

Bynum received the 2016 Regional Administrator’s Special Recognition award for her work in support of Delaware earning the distinction of being the third state in the nation to effectively end veterans homelessness. In 2018, Bynum was honored by the Delaware Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials by receiving the prestigious Robert S. Moyer Award for her outstanding contributions in the Housing and Community Development arena in the State of Delaware. She has been instrumental in providing information on the Department’s Initiatives to partners and stakeholders including Section 3, EnVision Centers, and Lead grants.

She began her federal career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. in 1989. Prior to that, Bynum spent time in front of the camera as a News Anchor with WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Md. Bynum resides in North Wilmington with her husband.

Today we are introducing a force of nature, Marcus Wright! He is a wealth of knowledge on the grassroots to state level.

Marcus Wright currently serves as the Outreach Coordinator for U.S. Senator Chris C***s in Kent and Sussex Counties. In this role, Marcus primarily focuses on education, minority outreach, faith-based outreach, labor, and nonprofits.

Marcus is experienced in public service, having worked stints with the US House Committee on Education and Labor and DE Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long. Marcus has also served roles as a youth advocate, student affairs specialist, and para-educator.

Marcus earned degrees from Delaware Tech and Delaware State University. In addition, Marcus is the Chairman of the Delaware chapter of United Rural Democrats, Director of Football Operations for Seaford Elite Travel Football, and a board member of Read Aloud Delaware.

Thank you Marcus for everything you do for the entire state of Delaware.

Kevin Andrade has been
a radio personality for more than 25 years, including his career as a broadcaster in his native Ecuador.

Kevin Andrade made two crucial decisions in 2003. The first was to leave a successful television career in Ecuador. The second was to bypass broadcast opportunities in Latin-rich Miami and head to Delaware.
