Belknap County Voters & Residents: The NH Fiscal Policy Institute's presentation on New Hampshire's budget is coming to the Laconia Library on Wednesday, May 20 at 5:45 PM.

Their research team will break down the State Budget, share insights from our research, and answer attendees’ questions. These sessions are designed to make complex policy decisions easier to understand and introduce our work to neighbors across the state.

As you know, Citizens for Belknap is not a fan of extremist libertarians and Free Staters for their corrosive affect our our state government. But this was outrageous, even for them. The threats must stop. And comments like the "final solution" remark, made by a sitting state representative, should result in a suspension by the Speaker, and being voted out, never to return. In fact, if you think that way, get the hell out of our county and our state.

🎗️Reminder🎗️ The Education Funding Forum is THURSDAY, Feb. 19, 6 pm at Laconia High School, discussing our current school funding challenges, and brainstorming solutions. Just in the last week, Farmington Schools and Manchester Schools announced shortfalls, and it's a matter of time before Belknap County schools are impacted.

Citizens for Belknap is saddened to hear of the passing of Rep. Harry Bean. He was a dedicated public servant for Belknap County and fought hard for the policies in which he believed.

We've been asked by the NH School Funding Fairness Project https://fairfundingnh.org/events/ to help communicate their upcoming forum at Laconia High School on February 19, 6 pm.

It's important to note that Citizens for Belknap is not taking a position on potential solutions, but we acknowledge that funding New Hampshire public schools, including here in Belknap County, is increasingly challenging.

As a group which advocates for a strong county economy, Citizens for Belknap recognizes that a well-educated workforce is critical to our long-term vitality.

We would encourage you to attend February 19th and learn more about those challenges.

LACONIA — Belknap County's elected state representatives will meet Wednesday, to discuss and potentially vote on the county budget.

𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗸𝗻𝗮𝗽 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱
Friends: The Belknap County Delegation's budget hearing is Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 6 pm at the County Complex. Two weeks ago, led by Delegation chair Harry Bean, the Delegation's budget subcommittee met and cut the 2026 County Commission-recommended funding to 50% of 2024 levels. The budget committee ignored the recommendation of the County Commissioners, who create the budget. The Delegation will hear public testimony on the budget recommendations Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 6 pm. at the County Complex.

Among the agencies cut are:
➡️Community Action Partners for Merrimack & Belknap County https://capbm.org/ (Meals on Wheels and other programs for seniors, support programs for families, individuals and the disabled;
➡️The Belknap County Conservation District, https://www.belknapccd.org/ which protects watersheds from erosion, works with local farmers, loans farm equipment, and facilitates surplus local food to reach food pantries; '
➡️UNH Cooperative Extension https://extension.unh.edu/, which offers dozens of agricultural, forestry, economic development and conservation education programs, including 4H youth programs; ➡️Lakes Region Mental Health Center https://lrmhc.org/, which provides critical services for a range of ages and abilities to pay;
