We are pleased to announce the upcoming promotion of Deputy Chief Dustin Parent to Chief of Police following Chief Kelley's retirement next month. Congratulations!

From the Town of Gilford NH - Selectmen's Office:

"The Gilford Board of Selectmen is pleased to announce the promotion of Dustin Parent to the position of Police Chief. Mr. Parent has been the Deputy Police Chief since December of 2024. He will be taking over for Chief Kris Kelley who will soon be assuming the role of Town Administrator.

Chief Parent began working as a Patrol Officer for the Gilford Police Department in 2003 and has since worked his way up the ranks while serving as a K-9 Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Deputy Police Chief. He also served as the Commander of the Belknap Regional Special Operations Group. And during this time, he graduated from the FBI National Academy and played a key role in the Gilford Police Department becoming accredited by the State of New Hampshire.

The promotion of Chief Parent by the Board of Selectmen was an easy decision following the recommendations made by Police Chief Kris Kelley and Town Administrator Scott Dunn. He will officially begin his duties on June 14. A swearing-in ceremony will be held in the Town Hall Conference Room on Monday, June 15 at 4pm and the public is invited to attend.

Chan Eddy, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, noted the Board was unanimous in making this appointment. He went on to say β€œDustin’s promotion to Chief was well earned. My fellow Selectman and I have watched him closely over the years as he worked his way up the chain of command and we are confident that he is well-suited for the role of Chief of Police. We know that he shares our goals of holding the Gilford Police Department to the highest of standards and accountability.”

Chief Parent resides in Gilford with his wife Leanna and has two children living at home. In his spare time he enjoys hunting and golfing. He is very excited about this new opportunity and looks forward to continuing the proud traditions and ensuring the professionalism of the men and women who work for the Gilford Police Department."
