Labonte For Gladstone

Labonte For Gladstone Hello, my name is Andrew Labonte and I am running for Gladstone City Council. Dear Gladstone Residents,
Thank you for living in this wonderful community.

I have experience on both the Traffic Safety Advisory Board and the Parks and Recreation Board. I am a homeowner, educator, business member and stay-at-home dad. I am kindly asking for your vote. I believe I will have a positive impact on the future of this City. I am prepared to do the hard work to be an effective city councilor. Check my record. As a member of the Traffic Safety Advisory Board I

have

-worked with community members and city staff to make safety improvements.
-spearheaded effort to place “Stop” signs at Max Patterson Park. -identified and collaborated to resolve traffic safety issues near the high school.
-consistently voiced the concerns of citizens and worked to resolve them. As a member on the Parks and Recreation Board I have. - worked to resist selling park land and greenspaces. - worked to improve accessibility for the children and senior residents.
-started discussions to expand and improve our trail system. My 4 year goals included but are not limited to. -fixing our most dangerous intersection at Arlington Rd. and Route 99.
-helping business succeed and encouraging investment in our Downtown.
-finishing the Portland Ave. pedestrian bridge. -improving walkability by promoting painted crosswalks and other traffic safety measures. -being open minded and eager to listen to the community. I believe a vibrant city must be a safe city for all our citizens and visitors. As our population increases we must be ahead of the issues that impact public safety, the environment and transportation. A vote for me is a vote for civility, inclusivity and a level-headed approach to problem solving.

We missed it by 124 votes. I'd like to congratulate Greg Alexander on his victory. I would like to congratulate the other candidates who both won and lost last night. Running for office takes time and energy. It takes vision and organization. In many ways, it is the fabric of our democracy and I am so thankful for your support and kindness throughout this election. For all of you who kindly placed yard signs on your property, thank you! I will be around today to retrieve those signs. I will put them in storage and perhaps use them again one day. Please remember, the Traffic Safety Advisory Board needs new members. Please consider applying for one of the many vacant seats. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Thank you!

Hello! I'd like to thank all of you for your support in the past few months. Winning the election would be ideal, however, win or lose, it is still a victory.

I am thankful for meeting so many new friends and learning about your concerns for our city. You are awesome!

Whether I am elected or not, I am still here. I will still help you in any way I can. I will still be here working to make our streets safer and improving accessibility and walkability.

From this experience, I have gained an even greater sense of community and gratitude for all our neighbors.
Thank you.

Vandalism sucks. My good friend had 2 rocks thrown through her business window. The police department is taking this very seriously and is routinely patrolling the downtown business district. IF anybody knows anything about this incident please reach out to the PD as it is being investigated as a hate crime.
Happyrock Roasting Company has been a staple in this community for years and offers a welcoming, safe space for all people. Our hearts are with you Lisa!

Covid-19 has changed so many things in our lives. Certainly, the way candidates interact with the public has shifted. We need to be respectful of social distancing while still hearing the concerns of our neighbors.
I’d like to thank everyone I had the opportunity to meet (at a distance) with today. Thank for taking the time and sharing your concerns and ideas for the city. Thank you to the people who live on Gloucester Rd for discussing your concerns about speeding, drainage issues and parking. I know many people express similar issues. In my capacity as the Chairperson of the Gladstone Traffic Safety Advisory Board, I will work to bring your concerns to the city staff.
If elected to city council, I will be a strong voice representing your concerns especially regarding traffic safety. If you are concerned about pedestrian safety, if you would like to see speeds reduced on Webster Rd and Oatfield Rd to make crossing the street less risky, I am your candidate.
These are issues I have been working on since joining the Traffic Safety Advisory Board 3 years ago. We have made some progress. We have worked to put up stop signs at Max Patterson Park, painted crosswalks on Arlington Rd, and soon we will have 30mph advisory signs in the curve located near the Nature Park on Webster Rd. We have installed radar speed signs to alert drivers of speed limits and worked to address truck routes through the city. These projects are a group effort; I’d like to thank the Police department and Public Works Dept for their attentiveness to these issues.
We have work to do. We need to come together as a community to fix the Route 99 and Arlington intersection. We need to ensure that pedestrians can safely cross Jennings Rd. and Webster Rd. The walkability on Glen Echo needs to be addressed. We shouldn’t have to risk our lives to cross the street.
I have worked in traffic safety for 20 years. I am honored to have an opportunity to use my skills to improve traffic safety in my community. Whether you support me for Council or not, I hear your concerns and will continue working towards improving public safety in Gladstone.
