This is another exciting step forward for our new Glasgow Farmers Market, currently operated by the Bounty of the Barrens Farmers' Market! This week, crews completed paving the parking lot, bringing us even closer to opening this incredible new space for our community.

Projects like this are about more than just buildings. They're about creating places where local farmers, small businesses, and families can come together for years to come.

A big thank you to our Public Works team, Scotty's Contracting & Stone, and everyone helping bring this vision to life. I can't wait to see the market filled with vendors, fresh produce, and neighbors enjoying this wonderful addition to Glasgow.

Monday morning began with another milestone for Glasgow's new Farmers Market on West Main Street as crews from Scotty's Contracting & Stone laid the final layer of asphalt for the parking lot.

The paving marks one of the final steps in completing the 4,800-square-foot facility, which has already been warmly received by the community. According to DPW Superintendent Jim McGowan, Scotty's will return to complete the final pavement striping once the asphalt surface is finished.

With each finishing touch, the new Farmers Market moves one step closer to welcoming vendors, shoppers, and community events for years to come.

For decades, she has led with professionalism, integrity, and a deep commitment to serving the people of Glasgow, Barren County, and Metcalfe County. On behalf of our community, thank you, Beverly, for your extraordinary career and the lasting impact you've made.

I also want to congratulate April Dunbar on her appointment as Director of the Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Communications Center. April has spent more than 25 years serving our region, and I have every confidence that her experience, leadership, and passion for public safety will continue the Center's tradition of excellence.

Please join me in thanking Beverly for her incredible service and congratulating April as she steps into this important leadership role. Wishing you both nothing but the best in the chapters ahead.

Today we recognize two remarkable women whose dedication has helped shape emergency communications in our community.

After more than 40 years of service, including 20 years as Director of the Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Communications Center, Beverly Harbison is retiring. Her leadership, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to public safety have left a lasting impact on our community and the generations of telecommunicators she has mentored.

As Beverly begins this well-earned new chapter, we are proud to welcome April Dunbar as the Center's new Director. With more than 25 years of experience, a passion for public service, and a proven record of leadership, April is well prepared to lead the agency into the future.

Saturday's Sip, Shop & Stroll was a tremendous success, and I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who helped make it happen.

Events like this don't come together by accident. They require months of planning, coordination, and the dedication of countless individuals working behind the scenes. From our volunteers and organizers to our public safety teams, every person played an important role in creating a welcoming and safe experience for our community and visitors.

A special thank you goes to the Glasgow Downtown Business Association for their leadership and commitment, the more than 120 vendors who brought energy and excitement to our streets, and the many brick-and-mortar businesses that opened their doors and welcomed shoppers throughout the day.

One of my favorite parts of the event was seeing so many faces I didn't recognize. It was clear that people were traveling to Glasgow to experience what our downtown has to offer, and that's exactly the kind of momentum we want to continue building.

I'd also like to recognize the tremendous effort from our City teams, including traffic control personnel, the Glasgow Police Department, emergency services personnel who stood ready throughout the event, public works staff, and everyone else who helped ensure the day ran smoothly and safely.

Thank you to everyone who attended, participated, volunteered, sponsored, organized, and supported this event. Saturdays like these remind us how special our community is and what can be accomplished when people come together with a shared vision for downtown Glasgow.

Welcome Home Henry Royse, Glasgow Mayor!! On Thursday, we talked about the excitement of the new home for the Bounty of the Barrens Farmers' Market and the Joyce Driver Aquatic Center. While the ribbon cutting for the new facility at American Legion Park was yesterday, WCLU honored Joyce Driver as Person of the Day today! Joyce truly is Good as Gold!!

From the slides and splash features to the zero-depth entry, climbing wall, concessions, pickleball courts, walking trail, and more, this truly feels like a vacation destination right here at home.

Most importantly, this project honors the legacy of Joyce Driver and the generations of families who have made memories at our city pool.

This past Saturday, I visited the new Bounty of the Barrens Farmer's Market at 400 West Water Street, where market manager Eleni Georgiadis and local producers are building something special for Glasgow and Barren County.
