🚨Public Alert❗️

💨 New Jersey Forest Fire Service is conducting controlled burns today in Ocean & Burlington Counties. A recent wind shift has caused a considerable presence of smoke within our county, especially in Monroe & Washington Twp.’s, Glassboro, and areas south.

📍As conditions and winds continue in our direction, residents across the county are likely to begin to smell or see smoke.

📣 If you smell or see smoke, this may likely be the cause. Our dispatch center has become overloaded with reports of smoke in the county.

📱If you believe you have an active fire situation, or related problem in or around your home, please dial 9-1-1. ☎️

⚠️ Limit outdoor activities and keep windows closed to reduce smoke effects if you are more at risk.

⚠️Be advised there will be traffic delays in the area of Rt. 55 NB in the area of Little Mill Rd.

🚨 Major accident Rt. 55 northbound at mile 47.8, just prior to Exit 48, Ellis St. Glassboro 🚧

Multiple Fire & Rescue, EMS, and police departments on scene assisting. At least 8 patients varied between adult and pediatric, some of which reported gravely critical. Medical helicopters have also been called to the scene.

⚠️ Seek alternate routes of travel as the Hwy is anticipated to be closed for a lengthy period of time, as the NJSP Fatal Accident Investigation Unit is en route. ⚠️

📣 Expect heavy traffic congestion in Elk Twp., Clayton, and Glassboro on local roadways until situation has resolved. 📣

🚨8:00pm UPDATE: The on scene portion of the investigation has concluded and all lanes are reopening. NJSP is handling the investigations.

On or around March 3, 2025, the Glassboro Water Department will begin the replacement of the sewer main on Academy St. The construction area will span from High St to Grillo.

In order to facilitate efficient work and expedite the project timeline, Academy St will be closed at High St. Additionally, Academy St will be closed at Grove with signage indicating "Local Traffic Only" to ensure residents still have access to their properties with minimal disruption.

Throughout the construction process, access to your property will not be restricted. The project is expected to span several months, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Early last evening, during the initial wind gusts, multiple poles and transformers were brought down behind a commercial area of Glassboro. The damaged utility poles caused a complete power failure to a Glassboro Housing Authority Complex of 40 apartments, occupied by mostly seniors and disabled persons. Also affected was the McDonalds on Delsea Dr, and the businesses in the Samurai Hibachi and Dollar General plaza behind that.

OEM officials worked through the night and into the morning hours, along with Glassboro Police & Fire Department’s personnel, and Gloucester County Housing Authority staff to relocate persons from all 40 units into emergency housing due to the CODE BLUE situation 🥶. Most of those residents accepted provided shelter at a hotel, while some opted to stay with family or friends. We have been assisted by the American Red Cross throughout the process.

〽️ As of late Monday morning, Atlantic City Electric has been hindered for assessment and restoration efforts due to the continued high wind gusts. 💨

💨 🌳 Fire Departments across the county began answering countless reports of trees down across roadways and/or arcing, or downed power lines / utility poles related to the high winds since 5pm 〽️

🔦 Have flashlights or candles ready to go for the evening hours. 🕯️

⚠️ Please be patient with calls & responses from emergency and utility crews, for NON life-threatening emergencies or calls, during storms like this. ☎️

📱Other counties across the region and north of us in NJ have, or will be, experiencing similar wind related issues. These 9-1-1 centers often assist each other during periods of intense or peak call volume, thus making their jobs that much more demanding. Dispatchers answering calls, may not be from your exact county or familiar with your area. ALL calls will be answered! 📞

🚨 Downed wires should be considered energized and unsafe, until told otherwise by emergency or utility crews. 〽️

🚧 Delsea Dr. northbound is closed due to a water main break in front of the Gloucester County - Clayton Complex. Southbound travel is still accessible at this time. The closure is anticipated to last 8 hours, until restoration is completed.

Please seek alternate routes of travel and utilize caution in the area. ⚠️

Glassboro Public Works is prepared and will be out tomorrow treating roadways, as well as the County and State snowplow trucks. Please use caution while traveling as the current moisture and dangerous cold temperatures will cause hazardous road conditions.

🚧 Delsea Drive (Rt. 47) is closed to thru traffic in Glassboro, between Earl and Stanger Ave's. A motor vehicle crash near the Clayton border brought down multiple utility poles and wires.

No injuries were reported and the accident is under investigation by Glassboro Police Dept. NJ DOT is assisting with the road closure, as a traffic diversion plan around the scene is in place. 〽️Utility companies are responding. Please seek alternate routes of travel as restoration is anticipated through the evening hours. 🚧

⚠️ UPDATE: The utilities have been repaired and restored, and Delsea Drive reopened overnight.
