In May 2018, Somervell County Sheriff Office employees, Captain Mike Gilbert and Property / Records Clerk Katy Linnabery, shared an idea to honor fallen Game Warden Teyran “Ty” Patterson by walking across the County of Somervell. On May 30, 2007, during the recovery operation of a drowning victim, Game Warden Patterson lost his life while saving the life of a fellow Game Warden in Somervell County. Our sole goal was to ensure Ty was remembered in our community. Several people, including SCSO employees and fellow Game Wardens, made the 13.1 mile walk from the Hood County line, through Somervell County and ending at the Bosque County line.

This year, Somervell County Sheriff Alan West is reaching out to the Sheriff Offices in Hood and Johnson Counties to join the walk. Hood County has lost 3 Officers in the line of duty: Jailer James Truitt in 1886, Deputy Larry Miller in 1992, and Sgt. Lance McLean in 2013. Johnson County has lost 2 Officers in the line of duty: Deputy George Robinson Jr. in 1971 and Deputy Clifton Taylor in 2011.

Sheriff West invites all Officers, First Responders, Military Veterans, and any Citizens to walk with us this year to honor these men who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The route has changed and it’s a little bit longer (15.4 miles) and starts at the Hood County line, walking through Somervell County and ending at the Johnson County line.

The walk is planned to start at North FM 56 and end on East Hwy. 67. The Somervell County LEC, located at 750 East Gibbs Blvd. , will serve as a designated rest area for those who need it. We will have a support staff and plan to begin our walk on Saturday April 27, 2019 at 7 a.m. Please join us and help spread the word.

There have been reports of credit card skimmers being placed in surrounding area gas stations. Somervell County has had one incident in the past month, however, the skimmer was located by the station owners and confiscated by this Office. No credit card numbers were compromised in this incident. Be sure to look for labels such as the one pictured to ensure the pump has not been tampered with. A tampered sticker will be broken or have the words "void" written across the sticker. The skimmer confiscated by this Office was an internal skimmer that would not be visible by a customer at the pump.

01/12/2019

We pray for a speedy recovery for the Arlington Police Officer that was shot last night. His family and the Arlington PD are in our thoughts and prayers.

The following post was copied from the Johnson County page. If you didn't call them and someone shows up wanting to do work and the offer sounds too good to be true.... It usually is!! If you have an issue with someone showing up on your property don't hesitate to have us come out and check them out....

Recently we have taken a few reports on a repeat scam taking place in our county. There have been reports of traveling road/driveway pavers going door to door offering one time deals for cheap prices to pave, fix, or re-pave driveways or private roads. These bad guys take money as deposits or the full fee from the victim, do little or no work then take off leaving the victim with damaged driveways or property.

Please make sure you use a reputable company when having work done on your home. Fly by night companies pop up all the time and attempt to take advantage of hard working people. Remember if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
