It was a GLENDALE GREEN SUMMER.
We would like to thank all those involved with this summer's MMSD Glendale Green Summer initiative. Thank you Mayor Kennedy!
Today I had honor of recognizing five Glendale men who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Their Court of Honor was held outside at Maslowski Park. Congratulations to Ben Hersh, Siggy Kakulis, David Seery, Liam Thompson and Jack Zimmerman from Troop 393 on achieving Scouting's highest rank. I presented them each with a proclamation signed by the entire Common Council (not just the Mayor).
I also shared with them my reflections on what being an Eagle Scout has meant to me. It's been 32 years since my own Court of Honor. I encouraged them to always look for ways to serve their communities and to remember all of the ways that they can exercise good citizenship.
Lastly, I reminded them that it takes a village to raise a child. They did not get here alone. Kudos also go to their parents, grandparents, family, teachers, scout leaders, mentors and others that helped mold their lives. If you know any of these men or their families, send them congratulations and thank them for the acts of service they have done in our community.
Thank you to those of you who have responded to our invitation - we look forward to seeing you at the Eagle Court of Honor on August 8th - THIS Saturday, at 2:00 PM. If you haven't already done so, please let us know if you can make it so that we can plan accordingly and provide for the needed physical distancing to keep this event safe.
We have a couple of very important reminders for the safety of our guests and our Scouts - please note:
- Please bring your own seat: the Maslowski Park Amphitheater has ample space, but no chairs.
- Please maintain recommended physical distancing at all times.
- All attendees are required to wear a mask. If you are unable to wear a mask due to health reasons, we ask that you join us virtually at the address listed below.
If you are uncomfortable attending in person or meet the criteria that define "at risk" members of the community, please join us virtually.
A live simulcast of the event will be available on our Troop page at: https://www.facebook.com/Troop393Glendale
We look forward to seeing you there or online at our page - contact me if you have any questions.

First up - Ben Hersh
Greetings, Friends, Family, and Supporters!
Today - April 4th - was the day that we were all going to gather and celebrate the achievements of these five special Scouts - all of whom have earned their Eagle Rank this year:
We are saddened that under the circumstances we are unable to come together to recognize and celebrate these five young men, and all they have achieved. They deserve our recognition!
We do plan to host a Court of Honor on behalf of these Scouts some time in the future, but with the current events being what they are, we will have to wait until later in the year. We will send out a new announcement when we can make that happen.
In the meantime, feel free to post your messages with your words of congratulations and encouragement here. It is at times like this when we need Scouting, and Eagle Scouts, more than ever to provide us with the leaders that we will look up to as the world throws new and unknown challenges our way.
Above all else, stay healthy, stay safe, and take care of your families and community!
A great day snowshoeing and working on our Snow Sports Merit badge!
