You could help solve a cold case!

DNASolves is a database that is used exclusively in aiding human identification investigations, such as homicides, unidentified persons, and sexual assaults. DNASolves uses genetic genealogy to specifically aid law enforcement in solving unsolved cases.

If you have previously submitted your DNA to organizations like Ancestry.com, 23andMe, MyHeritage DNA, and FamilyTreeDNA, you could submit your DNA profile curated by those organizations to DNASolves. If you have never used one of these sites but want to participate, you can submit your DNA through an Othram Swab Kit for a fee.

DNASolves is not an ancestry or health related genealogical database. If you browse the website, you’ll see that our office currently has a case open with them. They also have a lengthy list of their solved cases to browse through!

If you’re willing, please consider submitting a DNA profile to DNASolves. The public helps in unsolved cases more than you may know!

***UNIDENTIFIED MALE of Wheat Ridge, CO***

On December 27, 2024, the skeletal remains of an unidentified individual were found by a gold panner in the Arapahoe Bar Gold Panning Park of Wheat Ridge.

Despite an extensive investigation and community outreach, the remains have yet to be identified. We believe they belonged to a White male who stood 5'4'' to 6'2'' and was 50 to 70 years of age and estimated to have died between 2021 and 2023.

Our office has teamed up with forensic company Othram to identify the remains using DNA evidence. For the full story and to contribute to the cause, click the link in the comments below.

We appreciate any and all help.

What do chocolate chip cookies and fentanyl have to do with each other??

It's called the chocolate chip cookie effect . . .

It's a term often used in pharmacology and toxicology to explain the uneven distribution of a potent substance with a larger mixture. Just like chocolate chips are unevenly distributed in a cookie, street fentanyl is unevenly distributed through each batch of drugs. As a result, every time someone uses drugs that may contain fentanyl, they are tempting fate because there's no way of telling if they will be ingesting a lethal dose of fentanyl.

Test strips will show the presence of fentanyl but not the amount or lethality.

The safest course of action is simply not to use drugs or illicit substances. If you take medications, only take them if they've been prescribed by your doctor. Don't take someone else's loose pills because you don't know where they came from and what's in them.

Stay safe!

As an office that serves the entire county, we work with numerous agencies. Some areas of Jefferson County are protected by city police while other areas may see a response from the sheriff’s office. If someone needs medical assistance, their location will depend on which fire department or medical company services that area. Thankfully, you don’t have to make those decisions or figure out which agency to call because Jeffcom911 emergency dispatch will get to the root of the problem and figure out who to send where.

If you want to learn a little bit more about Jefferson County and you’re curious which law enforcement agency or fire department covers your area, check out the interactive link below.
