FAMILY TESTIMONIAL:
My father, Ed Amedee, has been bravely living with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a genetic condition that causes numerous cysts to grow on the kidneys, eventually leading to kidney failure. Over the years, we’ve watched this disease slowly take a toll on his health. Now, he’s at a critical point — his kidneys are failing, and he urgently needs a living kidney donor to survive.
What makes our situation even more challenging is that his blood type is O negative — one of the rarest. While O negative is the universal donor for blood, in kidney transplantation, it’s the opposite: he can only receive a kidney from another O negative donor. This makes finding a match incredibly difficult and time-sensitive.
This disease runs in our family. I, too, have recently been diagnosed with early-stage PKD, which makes it impossible for me to be a donor — though I wish more than anything that I could. Watching my dad fight this, knowing I may face the same path in the future, has only deepened my urgency and hope that someone out there can help give him more time.
Ed isn’t just my dad — he’s also “Pops” to his three grandkids: Anna, Andrew, and Haze. They absolutely adore him, and he lights up every time they’re around. We're all hoping he'll be there for many more birthdays, school milestones, and everyday moments that mean everything to a family.
If you or someone you know is O negative and willing to consider being a living kidney donor, it could truly save his life. Even if you’re not a match, simply sharing this message could help us find someone who is.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for keeping our family in your thoughts.
