🚒 Recognition for a Life-Saving Response ❤️

Tonight, two members of the Sorrento Volunteer Fire Department, along with several responders from the St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department / 5th Ward Vol. Fire Dept. - Ascension, La, and Acadian Ambulance, were recognized for their actions during a cardiac arrest in the St. Amant community on July 26, 2026.

As part of the recognition, plaques generously donated by James E. LeBlanc were presented to the responders by Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment, along with a short letter from the patient’s family expressing their appreciation for the care and efforts provided that day.

These responders’ quick response, training, and teamwork played an integral part in giving someone another chance at life — a powerful reminder of why we train, why we respond, and why we serve.

We are incredibly proud to see our members, FF Bobbie Nobles and Lt. Dakota Jenkins, recognized for their dedication and service to our community.

Today, the members of the Sorrento Volunteer Fire Department proudly congratulate our very own Admin/Firefighter/EMR Bobbie Nobles on being named the Knights of Columbus Council 6389 Firefighter of the Year!

This award is a testament to Bobbie’s unwavering dedication, selfless service, and commitment to both our department and the community we are honored to serve. Whether she’s behind the scenes ensuring our department operates smoothly, answering the call as a firefighter and EMR, or always finding ways to help others, Bobbie consistently goes above and beyond without seeking recognition.

We are incredibly proud to have someone as integral to our department as Bobbie receive this well-deserved honor. Her passion, professionalism, and servant’s heart embody the values of the fire service and inspire everyone around her.

Today, our hearts are heavy.

The members of the Sorrento Volunteer Fire Department extend our deepest, most heartfelt, and sincere condolences to the brothers and sisters of the St. John Parish Fire Department as you mourn the loss of one of your own.

There are no words that can truly ease the pain of losing a member of the fire service. Whether paid or volunteer, every firefighter answers the same call—to serve others without hesitation, to stand in the face of danger, and to place the needs of complete strangers before their own. That commitment creates a bond that reaches far beyond department lines. We are all one family, and today, that family grieves together.

We know that behind every turnout coat is a person who was a friend, a mentor, a teammate, and a loved one. Their impact extended far beyond emergency scenes and station walls. The memories made on countless calls, training nights, shared meals, and long conversations at the firehouse will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of serving alongside them.

To every member of the St. John Fire Department, please know that you are not facing this loss alone. The entire fire service stands beside you. We share in your sorrow, honor your brother’s dedication to serving others, and recognize the sacrifice that comes with answering the call to protect our communities.

We also lift up the firefighter’s family, friends, and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers. May they find strength in the overwhelming support of the fire service family and comfort in knowing that their loved one’s life was one of courage, selflessness, and service.

As firefighters, we understand that while badges, patches, and department names may differ, the oath we take is the same. Today, we mourn together. We remember together. And we honor a life devoted to serving others.

As we celebrate our nation’s birthday and kick off the America 250 celebration weekend, we hope everyone has a fun, memorable, and most importantly, 𝙨𝙖𝙛𝙚 holiday.

This weekend will bring increased traffic on our roads, waterways, and at public celebrations. Whether you’re traveling by car, motorcycle, ATV, boat, or simply spending time with family and friends, please make safety your top priority.

🚗 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙡 𝙎𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙩
• Slow down and obey speed limits.
• Buckle up—every seat, every trip.
• Never drive impaired or distracted.
• Give emergency vehicles plenty of room to work.

🚤 𝙒𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮
• Always wear a properly fitted life jacket.
• Never operate a boat while impaired.
• Watch your speed and stay alert for other boaters, swimmers, and obstacles.
• Keep a close eye on children anytime they’re near the water.

🎆 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮
• Leave large fireworks to the professionals whenever possible.
• Keep spectators, especially children, at a safe distance.
• Have a bucket of water or a hose nearby before lighting fireworks.
• Never relight a firework that fails to ignite.
• Light one firework at a time and move away quickly.
• Never point or throw fireworks at people, vehicles, or homes.
• Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them thoroughly in water.

As we wrap up another successful fundraiser, we want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who helped make it possible.

A huge THANK YOU to Associated Grocers Baton Rouge for their generous donation, and to Atmos Energy for going above and beyond by covering the entire cost of this fundraiser. Your incredible support allowed every dollar raised to go directly toward supporting the Sorrento Volunteer Fire Department and our mission to serve this community.

We would also like to thank the Sorrento Lions Club- Louisiana and the Boucherie Festival Association for volunteering their time to help serve plates. Your willingness to step in and lend a hand made the day run smoothly, and we truly appreciate your partnership.

Our Pulled Pork Fundraiser has officially SOLD OUT! We can’t thank everyone enough for the incredible support. Every plate purchased helps support the mission of the Sorrento Volunteer Fire Department, and we’re truly grateful for this community that continues to stand behind us.

A huge thank you to everyone who bought a plate, shared our posts, volunteered their time, donated, and helped make today such a success. We couldn’t do it without each and every one of you.

Y’all make sure to stop by the Sorrento Fire Dept Station 20 today for a pulled pork sandwich plate! We may have done some taste testing & can confirm… that’s a good sandwich!
