🎃 Spooky Stories at the Library today with the after school program👻

The Friends of the Library had a frightfully fun time this week as local kids let their imaginations run wild, writing haunted house stories and building and creating their own haunted houses. 🕯️🏚️

From mysterious noises to crazy dances, their creativity brought spooky tales to life — and plenty of laughter along the way. ✏️📖

A big thank-you to all the young authors who joined in the fun and shared their spooky story ideas with us! 💀🎃

📚 Celebrating the History of Friends of the Library! 🤝

Did you know that Friends of the Library groups have been supporting public libraries for more than a century?

The very first Friends group in the U.S. was formed in 1922 in Illinois, when community members came together to help fund programs, advocate for library support, and encourage a love of reading. Their example spread quickly — and soon, “Friends” groups began popping up across the nation.

Today, there are thousands of Friends of the Library organizations, all made up of passionate volunteers who believe in the power of libraries to transform communities. From hosting book sales and fundraisers to sponsoring events and advocating for library funding, these groups make a lasting impact every day.

Here’s to the Friends — past, present, and future — who help our libraries thrive! 💙📖
