Thank you King County’s CHOMP! King County DNRP for having us out for another year of CHOMP! 🌳

As Free The Green, we love to spread our environmental stewardship through cheer and education with art! 💚 Getting to create block print art on tote bags and t-shirts with salmon, native plant, orca, and macro invertebrate designs was inspirational, and was amazing to see how excited everyone one was learning about salmon habitat restoration !

🌱 We’re back! After a short summer break, Orca Conservancy’s salmon restoration events are returning starting on Sept. 5th!!

Join us and our partners for hands-on restoration events as we get ready to add native trees and shrubs along local waterways. These plants help stabilize streambanks, provide shade, improve water quality, and create healthier habitat for young salmon.

Restoring salmon habitat is also an important part of protecting Southern Resident killer whales, which depend on healthy and abundant Chinook salmon for survival.

We can’t wait to get back outside and restore salmon habitat with you! 🐟🌲🐋

Our Berrydale salmon restoration site location is becoming much more than just a 'parcel of land', it is now an investment in the long-term health of the Green-Duwamish watershed and the species that depend on it.

By removing invasive plants, restoring native forest, stabilizing stream-side habitat, and engaging volunteers and students in hands-on stewardship, this project is helping improve water quality, reduce erosion, provide shade that keeps streams cooler, and create healthier conditions for salmon throughout their life cycle.

These benefits extend well beyond Big Soos Creek itself, supporting the broader ecosystem that ultimately sustains Southern Resident killer whales, whose survival depends on abundant, healthy Chinook salmon.

Berrydale demonstrates how community-driven habitat restoration can create lasting environmental benefits, strengthen climate resilience, and inspire the next generation of conservation stewards.

A huge thank you to our volunteers, field crew, and Orca Conservancy for all of the hard work we put into our Berrydale Tree Forest site this past Saturday!

Creating survival rings around our native plantings by cutting back the invasive reed canary grass and mulching the plants are all huge efforts displayed in the success of our restoration site.

Salmon Habitat Restoration Work Party! 🐟🌿

Join Free The Green this Saturday, June 20th, as we head back to our Berrydale Tree Forest Restoration Site along Big Soos Creek, to continue restoring critical salmon habitat.

We’ll be removing noxious weeds, caring for native plants, and talking salmon, watershed health, and PNW ecology, all while getting our hands dirty together. Tools and snacks are provided 🌱

Come celebrate Lake Kapowsin Day with us on Saturday, May 30th from 10am-2pm at Washington’s only freshwater Aquatic Reserve! Join local scientists, educators, conservation groups, and community organizations for plant walks, bird walks, family activities, and opportunities to learn more about the ecology and stewardship of Lake Kapowsin.

Free The Green will be there tabling and connecting with the community about restoration, native plants, salmon habitat, and local environmental work. We hope to see you there! Bring your own water bottle and snacks, and don’t forget a Discover Pass. 🌲🐟
