At the May 7 City Council Meeting, May 12-18, 2019 was officially recognized as Police Week in the City of Granbury. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.

Tomorrow is Peace Officers Memorial Day in honor of those peace officers who, through their courageous deeds, have lost their lives or have become disabled in the performance of duty. The City urges our citizens to join in commemorating law enforcement officers, past and present, who by their faithful and loyal devotion to their communities, have established for themselves the rights and security of all citizens.

Pictured is the Granbury Police Department accepting the proclamation from City Council, and law enforcement officers receiving the 2019 Spotlight Award from the Friends of Memorial Lane Police Week Kick-Off Ceremony on May 12: Granbury Police Department Officer Mikevin Singletary (accepted by grandparents Charles and Janet Foster), Hood County Sheriff's Department Corporal Fernando Martinez, Hood County Constable's Office Deputy Constable Matthew Cox Pct. 4, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Randel Wilson, and Brazos River Authority Lake Ranger Kyle Lewis.

Thank you, Friends of Memorial Lane and Granbury Chamber of Commerce, for holding a groundbreaking for the new swing structure at Firefighter Playground in Memorial Lane & Jim Burks Memorial Park - Granbury Parks & Recreation yesterday afternoon!

The new swings were made possible by five-year-old Oakley, who held multiple fundraisers and reached out to local businesses for support to raise the money for the project. Fundraising efforts covered the purchase of the swing structure, poly timber borders, and a handicap ramp. The swing structure has been ordered and will be installed upon arrival.

Vote - Granbury - Best Historic Small Town Nominee: 2019 10Best Readers' Choice Travel Awards

Granbury has been nominated in the USA TODAY Best Historic Small Town Competition! We already know Granbury is the best, but YOU can help us take home the crown by voting online.

There are 20 nominees for Best Historic Small Town. A winner will be chosen by voting for your favorite once per day until Monday, May 6 at noon ET. The 10 winning small towns will be announced on Friday, May 17. Granbury is currently ranked 9 out of 20.

“We love our charming town of Granbury but here is an opportunity for all of us to show everyone why we are the “Best Historic Small Town” as nominated by USA Today. Granbury’s Famous Historic square, lined by historic landmarks, makes for excellent shopping, and there are plenty of “foodie” options to choose from day or night. The beach at Lake Granbury offers a unique way to cool off in the Texas heat, and there’s even our waterfront boardwalk connecting everyone when it is time to Meet At The Lake. Ghost tours, gorgeous sunsets, wineries and more…it is easy to vote for Granbury as the Best Historic Small Town in America. Thank you so much for your vote!” – Tammy Dooley, Director of Visit Granbury
