GRAND COUNTY TRAIL REPORT
FRIDAY 9/4/26
HAPPY SEPTEMBER!! For many locals, this is our favorite time of year. The weather is cooler. The crowds are less. And all things outdoors are still accessible. So, play hard and make the most of it!
For those folks looking to get out into the back country, please know that thanks to the hard work of the USFS, HTA and volunteers, all major blowdowns have been cut off trail. So, unless noted below, you should encounter few obstacles on the trail.
β οΈ CAUTION:
-Grand County Water Information Network has reported visual presence of cyanobacteria at Willow Creek Reservoir. π¦ β οΈ
-Devil's Thumb Trailhead - access from Hwy 40 is CLOSED at County Road 8. Detour is via County Road 804 at the Safeway light. Follow the detour signs until you get to CR 8 and then turn right (east) to head towards the trailhead.

-Vasquez Road at the Town of Winter Park just before the USFS boundary. β

-County Road 8 is closed beginning, August 24th, for road work.
To access Devil's Thumb Trailhead follow the County Road 8 detour off of Highway 40 via CR 804. The Fraser River Trail (FRT) trailhead is still accessible and unaffected. However, users wishing to get to the Fraser to Granby should exit the FRT just before the Twin Rivers Condominiums.
EAST TROUBLESOME FIRE AREA RECOVERY EFFORTS
This season HTA has a dedicated crew working in the burn scar to improve/reopen damaged trails. Here's the new openings so far:
-Beaver Line
-Spruce Em Up Jack
-Sherman Creek - NEW as of 8/29/26
-Soda Pass

Old Fall River Road is still OPEN!

Currently, the only fires that are allowed are in permanent campfire rings in fee area campgrounds. Operation of liquid fuel fire pits and grills are still allowed.

The East Troublesome and Williams Fork burn scars have created unprecedented scenes in our county. The Grand Lake area as well as US Hwy 125 is still in a post-fire recovery state. Please exercise caution when recreating in these areas paying special attention to potentially dangerous fire burned trees and possible flash flooding.
