High Desert Police K9 Association

High Desert Police K9 Association Welcome to High Desert Police K-9 Association!

We are a non-profit association offering training and certification for law enforcement K-9 teams, SAR teams, hospital security teams, and K-9 cadaver teams for agencies/organizations in CO, WY, and UT.

05/29/2026

Over the last year, CPW has worked to expand its K-9 program, and we will be excited to share more information about two of our new K-9 officers working here on the Western Slope over the coming weeks.

For now, we want to introduce you to K-9 Pike, handled by CPW officer Mark Richman. Pike will help with a wide range of duties here in the Gunnison Basin as well as the districts covered by CPW's Grand Junction and Glenwood Springs area offices.

As we bring Pike on board our team, we want to acknowledge the organizations who help make our K-9 program possible. Thanks to Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., we are able to make sure Pike has the proper protective equipment when he's in the field.

Here's more information:

K9 BITO & JENNIFER JOHNSON

Meet Bito! Born on 1/10/24, this handsome Malinois made his way to Lutheran MC all the way from Poland by way of North Carolina. Alongside his handler, JJ (DOB 6/9/80), Bito has quickly become a beloved part of the hospital family.
Bito’s absolute favorite pastime is chasing balls, and his two favorite commands are “sit” and “cuddle” — although everyone knows “cuddle” really means he’s about to get unlimited belly rubs.
When he’s off duty, Bito enjoys spending time with his two human siblings and his dog siblings, Noodle and Charli.
One of Bito’s favorite places in the hospital is the ER, where he loves visiting fire personnel and silently wondering, “Why are those humans wearing half a bite suit?”
With his playful personality, loving nature, and endless charm, Bito brings smiles and comfort everywhere he goes.
